I get the feeling the cameraman really wants to get a kiss from Tom. Everything Tom does is amazing. You're so great Tom. Oooh, Tom, let me caress your hair, Tom.

hehe

Kinda crossed my mind tbh. Seems a pity they're just systematically destroying it though as opposed to anything remotely meaningful.

After all, ramblers don't pay rambling tax whereas motorists all pay VED.
VED is payed into the general taxation pot, where everyone else income taxes and VAT goes (along with others). Therefore the ramblers (an mountain bikers) pay the same amount as you do for the upkeep of that road. However who's going to let facts get in the way of an argument?

But I pay VED in addition to VAT and income tax so I've contributed three times where someone on foot has only put in twice. How's that work then?

I remember when I used to read two land rover magazines each month and they were both very keen to show the clubs repairing and maintaining the green lanes. I think the proper clubs were always considerate of the tracks.

The ramblers just need to get on with their walking and let others have some fun.
It's the same in the woods where we walk the dog, people put branches and trees across the paths to stop the mountain bikes etc.
Why should others not share?
It's an old argument that will never be resolved.

Did a track day on Friday and they are so strict on noise now. Again, another example of how one persons fun isn't somebody else's so they complain.

Fool.

VED payment is a legal requirement to use the roads. That it is used by the government for other things is not my fault, I still pay to use the roads where ramblers do not and STILL get the enjoyment of them.

Stop being so sarcastic and find another thread.

The roads are still paid for by general taxation, which is mostly paid for by income tax and not your pathetic little contribution (in comparison of average income tax paid) of VED each year. My issue is with your argument that you think that just because you pay between £100-500 a year for your VED that you own the road. If we really want to get into it I have two cars which cost £465 each to tax, I pay around £40k a year in income tax and I dread to think what I pay on VAT-qualifying purchases on top of that as well as fuel duty (I put over £17k a year into fuel). Does that mean I have a greater right to the roads than someone who doesn't have a car and a low paid job? I doubt it very much and I wouldn't be so arrogant as to assume otherwise.

On a side note I love greenlaning, mountain biking, motorbike trials, hiking and wild camping. Which means I am both a reckless off-roader, bridlepath destroying cycle monster and a bobble hatted ttty rambler all depending on which side of the argument you are on. I've also been part of efforts to fix both green lanes, walking paths and mtb trail centres. I don't agree with removing vehicular rights of access permanently, although TROs used for trails repairs I find are fine. However if there has been a series of incidents in the area and the damage is too great, due to stretched police budgets sometimes it has to be done to ensure peoples safety irregardless of who actually caused the damage. As with health and safety, it's the one or two bell-ends that ruin it for everyone, but unfortunately to the un-informed all off-roaders probably look the same.

So maybe instead of whinging about where your inconsequential drop of VED goes into fixing the roads (it's probably gobbled up clearing crisps packets off the M1 anyway), you could focus your attention into being more constructive with your energy?
