Good 4.0 ti's have just crept up and up in value over recent years. A good late 6 speed with low miles is making the guts of 9/10K and no sign of dropping.

I have noticed a number of Wranglers have these strange front bumpers. What are they for, to stop the car cart-wheeling?

Yep. It's called a stinger. Takes the momentum out before the forward rollover gets going on steep descents. In theory. Most of the prerunners and Baja lot use them too.

Once it's done it's job if you open the doors it has the added benefit of turning the jeep into a handy replica of the angel of the north statue.

Useful for rock sliding and general brush guard / nudge bar duties too.

Cheers. Just seems to be Jeeps that go in for them , never seen one on a Defender.

I really fancy a tj but it would need to be a v8! Easy conversion?

Why put a V8 in a TJ when it already has the 4.0 straight 6? There are V8 conversions around for newer engines (most recently seen a hemi conversion) but I don't think they're done often.

Lot of work for not a lot of gain, TBH.
