Places to ride offroad

Hi guys.

I'm looking for anywhere in Southern England/Wales to ride my ADV bike offroad or green laning this weekened. Its a 1190 KTM, so I'd prefer it not be something like the Erzberg rally and only for enduro bikes, but don't mind technical and some tough stuff, but ideally looking for some fire roads and the like to open it up a little.

Googling I'm seeing mostly guided tour stuff, but being new-ish to the UK I may not be looking at the right stuff.

Any suggestions? I did some stuff with Offroadskills two years ago in Wales (Walters Arena in South Wales), which is exactly what I want, but not open to the public.

Can't beat Salisbury plain if your close.Miles of fun,get an os map and stay legal.

And get a very recent OS map at that.
A lot of the Plain has been permanently closed recently with access to the byways withdrawn for good.

Really ? Ive not heard this ... any links to online documents ?

I know they have just finished a lot of work North of the Central Training Area and around Everleigh (Eastern Training area (Tidworth)) has all its byways still open over as far as Pewsey and down south to Bulford.

There are new restrictions around StoneHenge (but I guess thats not really part of SPTA).

Mostly the mod have been marking existing byways on the plain, I believe a couple have been closed by agreement but concessions given elsewhere, great place to ride a big trailie.

All the byways on the plain are signposted now. A few years ago, MOD & Wiltshire CC undertook an exercise to mark all intersections of the byways, and given the nature of SPTA, their status's are maintained / regulated very frequently.
Basically 'sorry it wasn't marked' isn't an excuse now.

I try to keep abreast of the ones that have vehicular access permitted, but more recently I've taken to using the bridleways and a 4legged friend. (No need to worry about punctures, getting stuck or fuel )

With that bike a trip out with the trf ad maybe a jaunt with blue light off road club then buy a wr250f and spare your big bike the damage

The actual installation of the signage has been an ongoing labour of love for GLASS and their associates.
Bobzilla on here has done an enormous amount of work towards it.
