Evening all! smile

As per the title really! I'd quite like to have a go at a bit of green landing locally... I've got a navara with some pretty damn aggressive mud tyres on it. I understand why people arn't so keen on disclosing lanes etc, but I'm not the sort t9 cause undue damage, or go dumping old fridges down them! Any maps etc would be awesome too!

Cheers folks!

Hello,
have a look on the internet to see whether your local county council has a rights of way map (most do).

Or speak to your local GLASS rep - membership is £36 and includes full access to trailwise the national unsurfaced rights of way database.

If you want more help PM me.

Look here http://www.bywaymap.com. There is a decent long one just west of Yarwell.

Not wanting to see anyone unwittingly get themselves into bother (e.g. trespass) I've listed some useful websites below, don't trust anything else on the internet as the data can be out of date or misinterpreted.

Local county Interactive Rights of Way map -> most County Councils have one.

Trailwise -> http://www.trailwise.org.uk/
Accessible to all, GLASS members have access to more detailed searches and may record use of lanes (useful if a closure is pending).

How to use it: http://forum.glass-uk.org/viewtopic.php?t=1364

Hi,

Just wanted to introduce myself as the new GLASS rep for Cambridgeshire along with my deputy, Brad Unwin. Brad and myself have only been doing the job for 3-4 weeks now, so we're still getting up to speed with al;l of the lanes in and around Cambs.

GLASS - East of England - are currently running a pub meet approx every 4-6 weeks, the next one is on the 1st of October just outside Bury St Edmunds - anyone is welcome to join members and non members, regardless of what you drive.

We're also planning on running a landing trip out in Thetford Forest early October....and later in the year looking at driving lanes in other parts of this and neighbouring counties.....

BywayMap frequently comes up - the issue here is the quality of the data. The best sources of data are the local councils (many of them have interactive maps online) plus through TRF & GLASS or an affiliated GLASS club, access to Trailwise which has a wealth of information about the current state of the lanes from people who have actually driven them. Limited access via Trailwsie is available for non GLASS & TRF members so feel free to have a look yourself....

All the details for the pub meet are on the East of England Greenlanes - GLASS page - which myself, Brad and number of local reps manage - if you on Facebook please be sure to stop by and have a look. The group is a closed group but is open to non GLASS members by request - hopefully bump into you there are some point in the future.

Any questions please don't hesitate to get back in contact.....

cheers

Is there a rep for Surrey?

I fancy taking to some light lanes in my Toureg with my 8 year old for a bit of fun.

I slightly nervous that the Touareg may not be tough enough but it must be more capable then I am as a trail driver surely? smile

Hi,

Sorry for the delay - don't "lurk" on here much.

Andy Jackson is the Surrey Rep for GLASS (surrey.rep@glass-uk.org).

I'm sure Andy will be able to advise on some non scratchy lanes for you - most 4x4s are capable enough, especially with the right tyres on them....

cheers

Darren

There are a few good lanes that start from just beyond the entrance to the off-road site on Old Sulehay road. They go out behind Oundle through the villages intersected with some short road sections.
There's one along the river near Whittlesey but floods quite often.

Unfortunately I'm no further help as I was part of a group and led round. Some parts require some "treading lightly" as they can have a bit of trail spread and/or are used by farms.

I've been part of a couple of groups off roading and green laning in the area both eventually went quiet.
The play days at Yarwell still go strong but otherwise around it there's not a lot going on. We used to just go out as a small group but essentially a lot were only interested in the group for cheap entry to P&P days.

There are a few groups that are Cambs/Norfolk border based that do drives over thetford.

I drove with EMORC some time back. Great friendly group, they do a drive day at Stainby just off the A1 and had a laning run in the afternoon.

I sold up a couple of years back and got out of the hobby.
