Hi, I am interested in going on a 2 day/overnight trek with Land Rover Experience http://www.scotland.landroverexperience.co.uk/Adve...

I have a Discovery 2 with regular insurance through Tesco. I did phone them but they don't offer off road cover at all. I even thought about cancelling Tesco and starting afresh and have spoken with both Flux and A-J insurance but neither will take me on because my 23 year old daughter needs to be a named driver. Is there anywhere that does such a thing as weekend/short term off road insurance? Thank you.

Is it green lanes or a site?

To be honest I'm not sure. The law regarding green lanes seems to be very different in Scotland in that I don't think there are any! It must be private land with landowner's permission.

I would hove thought you would be OK on green lanes as they are public highway.

As the OP said there are no green lanes in Scotland, effectively you can only off road with the landowners permission.

Try these guys for short term off road insurance...

and these guys for long term...

You will probably find that any comprehensive type insurance will be expensive for this type of cover and will contain a great many 'exclusions'.

I guess the other thing to ask is. What are you wanting to be insured against?

Spoke to keithmichaels insurance and they don't do short term cover, only 12 month policies. Regarding what the cover is for, I was told by Land Rover Experience that it is a requirement of booking...I suppose it's just 3rd party cover in case someone crashes into someone else?

I'm still a little uncertain on what's trying to be covered. If you are on private property, then arguably your current insurance will cover you the same as it would in a private car park or on someone else's driveway.

e.g. I don't think it would be any different to going to a car boot sale and parking in a field.
