4 runner. Surely they would sell like hot cakes?
Is there a diesel engine option in the latest model ?

I don’t think any of these are in the same class as the 4-Runner. The 4-Runner is probably for oil states and Australia. We don’t really have anything like the 4-Runner here.
I suggested Navaro owners purely based on the butch looks FWIW. People clearly like the macho image.

Navara and Rangers all over the place here. I know two ranger owners.

Doesn't look like a diesel option though.

There are company car tax advantages with the Navara etc that wouldn't apply with this.

The 4-Runner is primarily designed for and sold in the USA.
Yes there is a Hilux based suv in some markets called a Fortuner !!!???

I think that's a fair question actually. Consider the demise of the Defender, the delay of it's replacement, the number of Freelander 2 owners who will walk away from the brand as they find the Discovery Sport is not for them, all showing that Land Rover are walking away from the dirty welly brigade in favour of the green welly lot.
Interesting to read this, I've only used a FL1, and thought the FL2 was quite a step up in "lux" (for want of a better term...). Is the DS that much of a step further?

That would make more sense especially with the 2.4 diesel engine

going back a few years , hummers were popular. not very practical or fuel efficient.

to the op , is that a standard vehicle or is it or is it fiited with aftermarket parts ?

i have to admit i do like the look of that , although i have never driven a 4 x 4 or need one.

Fortuner is to Thailand as Range Rover is to Britain.

It's a bit of a variable feast, and gradually throughout its life the FL2 gradually got upgraded, then of course there are the trim levels from "commercial" through to the HSE or whatever the top level came to be known.

What persuaded me to have one was we had a "pool" version at one site. It was the S, next up from the base commercial, yet it was fine, was driven length and breadth of UK, towing all sorts and in the 3 years we had one problem, a puncture.

I got a 2010 HSE lux, pre dpf, v impt imo, pre facelift. Whilst use is a bit different at the moment (knee issue) it's general use is as a gundog van, up tracks, forest and moors several times a week, daily at times. Of course sods law says it's not been as reliable as the pool car, it's not been bad, touch wood. With rubber mats on the floor and suitable coverings to deal with muddy dogs it's fine, but wouldn't think of treating newer versions like that. The Discovery Sport is another step up, plus don't want 7 seats.

The other thing which gives pointer to the market, as good as LR tell us the Evoque, Discovery S etc are off road, when was the last one you saw on anything other than road tyres? I've never seen one, DS paramedics on all weathers is about as far as it gets.

There are some after market parts on that wheels, snorkel would imagine it's been raised a bit.

Standard ones don't seem to be too different.

I've always felt there should be a market for the Fortuner in the UK.

But I guess a Hilux (or similar) with a Truckman top would do for most people needing a brand new utilitarian SUV or a 10yr old Shogun for those on a smaller budget.

Hi guys, that's a TRD Pro 4 Runner, they're not that big and they've got adjustable height suspension with automatically detachable roll bars as part of the Toyota Offroad Systems underneath. I'm actually looking at buying one of these now.

They're not that big, infact they're almost exactly the same size as a long wheel base Mitsubishi Shogun (within an inch in height length and width).

You can lift them 2.5 inches and put some fancy shocks under them and they're generally rates as being the default car of choice for overlanding (taking extended trips into remote areas).

I reckon there is no reason they wouldn't sell in the UK, they're extremely capable out of the box and most US forums seem to indicate they're good for 500,000miles based on the way the previous generations have survived.

The one in the photo has a snorkel, rear bumper and tire mount (usually its under the rear deck) and a roof rack, oh and they've changed the tires, the wheels are the TRD wheels. I think they're 33" tires.

When I win the lottery I'll import one. I don't imagine a shogun is anywhere near as capable.

I take it the roll bars help off road in some way, wheel articulation?

Yeah, its called KDSS, for extended wheel articulation, it also has something called crawl control which is insane in what it can achieve, I've seen them sat on the chassis in soft sand completely stuck, and in 5-10minutes it digs itself out! (basically each wheel moves tiny amounts to take the loose sand infront of the wheel and to put it under the wheel, then that gets compacted as it builds up, it sounds as crazy as it is but it really works, have a look on youtube for Toyota Crawl Control Sand).
They're around $35,000 or for the top spec TRD Pro its almost $42,000...for me I was looking at a new Raptor, however by the time you have put all the options on it you're sat at $70,000 while I can get a TRD Pro 4Runner and buy King Shocks all round, winches, bumpers...the whole ultimate camping SUV modifications for another $10,000. Given I'm moving out of a Desert (Raptor country) to Canada or Colorado, the 4Runner just seems to be a much better choice.
