‘Capability’ is a word which has been used heavily in this thread. So few buy these monstrosities for their ‘capabilities’, even if they claim to. I think (and hope) that number is so insignificant that there is no commercial case for officially importing them.

I’m not a communist but I basically think we have enough monstrosities as it is, most of which have been purchased for the purposes of prevailing fashion, vanity and one-upmanship. Some have been purchased on the selfish and often misguided notion that they are necessary for safety, particularly of children.

If you’re one of the few who ‘need’ this vehicle for its ‘capabilities’, bully for you- fortunately for me I suspect you don’t live in the South East so I don’t have to look at it.

I’m not sure if you’ve seen an E34 BMW estate like mine recently but they don’t look big these days. Nonetheless mine can often be seen with a bootful of tools and tyres and a 1,300kg trailer on the back. I bought it for it’s capabilities.
If you needed that sort of capability why did you not buy a van or a crew-cab pick up, then you would not need a trailer that takes up valuable road space?

Quite! "I'm not a communist but..." I want to control what other people choose to drive on the basis of misguided prejudice.

If I want to drive around in a motorhome / RV based on a UniMog 5000 chassis, as long as it's taxed, insured, roadworthy and driven legally and safely, then as long as I'm not driving it across Russell's front garden what the f*** is it to do with him what I drive.

So it's a track only car then and never takes up space on the public roads? One would hope with your view in this thread, that you don't ever tow a trailer either. How rude that is to take up all that room on the road.

The 4runner TRD pro is more expensive than the Tacoma TRD pro by quite a bit. $41k for the 4runner. I've found manual trans, 4 door with long bed taco for $33k for 2016 models.

Because that makes literally no sense,

I know better than to indulge you but right or wrong I don't see the point in ginormous 4WDs, everybody knows that if off roading is your thing a smaller 4x4 will basically be better unless you're taking your entire family with you every time, and if you just want to move people around in safety and comfort you don't need off road capability.

You can't sleep in a small 4x4. A lot of people with the Trd's do overland adventuring trips for a few week's at a time, at Moab for example. A thermarest and a sleeping back is nicer than sleeping in a reclined seat.

That's great, I recognise that there are people who need this cars particular and very specific blend of 'capabilities'- but if those were the only people who were to buy one, then there is your answer to why Toyota might decide against bringing them here.

Toyota has never performed well in the SUV segment of the market in the UK. If they sold as many Land Cruiser's as Land Rover sold Range Rovers and Discoveries etc then it might be a different matter.

Yeah that sand control is impressive

I towed a car out of the sand in Spain with the crv. Was touch and go if I was going to get Stuck too. Would have been nice to have this feature.

In what way does it make no sense? If you need to carry larger loads then get a van, simples.

So
Get a van
And family car
And A smaller off-roader because they are better off road

Etc etc

How about get one that can most everything well. Or even better just buy what you want and don't worry about what other people want or need.

You don't need a car that does over 70 etc why do any of you care what other people want

So one or twice a year I do this I need to get a van do I for a couple times a year?

A pic up or van would be better for 5 days a year but the rest of the year I have two dogs in the back and I don't want them in a pick up bed... every week I got light off-roading just to get to uninhabited areas for the dogs. i also go in sand quite a lot. And travel a few thousand miles 4 up, plus 2 dogs and a fortnights worth of luggage. That vehicle would be perfect

Just because YOU see no reason for it and you are obviously a multi millionaire who can buy multiple vehicles for every single one off job needed through the year, doesn't mean we should all buy what you like or maybe we should because you are obviously the bestest at choosing cars for your needs therefore best at choosing our cars for ours.

Because 29 days out of 30 I want a normal car which does normal car things, and only on day 30 do I need to move a sports car with it.

Given that Mitsubishi are heading towards launching the new Shogun Sport here, I'd have thought it would make sense to compete....
If Mitsubishi do release the Shogun sport here I wonder how it will be received. It looks similar in concept to a RAV-4 or CRV but it also has a low range gearbox, separate ladder chassis, rear diff lock, permanent 4WD, etc. It looks to be halfway between a hard core off roader such as a Defender / Wrangler and a soft roader like the CRV / X-Trail, etc.

It's basically a L200/Triton with an enclosed bed and seating for 7. As it doesn't need to carry over a tonne in the bed, it's got coils instead of leaf springs at the rear.

The issue with these type of vehicles is that they fall between 2 stools, neither plush enough for a SUV, or with the tax breaks that come with a pick-up.

P.S. they don't have permanent 4wd, they run in rwd most of the time, however unlike most of their ilk, have a torsen central diff, so can be switched to 4wd on dry tarmac, without winding up the transmission

I'd much rather they bring the 70 series landrcruiser backs to the uk with the 4.5 V8 turbo diesel :-)
