I've mistakenly purchased a Pitman arm for an XJ without power steering, which, until this morning, I hadn't realised existed.

I'm just wondering if any where sold in the UK? I'm trying to work out if it's worth selling on or if I have £40 of scrap metal kicking about.

Does the pitman arm differ between RHD and LHD?

I do hope not. I just ordered a PS one.

The arm that I have is exactly the same length and drop, but the spline is different to the one on the steering box.

A power steering one has arrived. Not had a chance to fit it yet but the spline measures the same as the one I took off.

I don't think the original one was really up to being put back on again wink

All official UK XJ's had power steering
Pitman arms are different between lhd & rhd, the steering arm end is rotated towards the nearside hub depending which one you have. Unsure if the balljoint will have enough travel to fit a lhd one on a stock XJ, certainly can't fit a lhd arm on a 3" lifted XJ, I have tried, the balljoint didn't have enough movement

Curious - I guess I've managed to find a non-ps arm from a RHD territory in that case.

Caribbean, Southern Africa, India, Australia... All RHD countries where a work-spec 4x4 is not unexpected.

Work spec on an XJ sounds good. Save carrying around all the luxury items that don't work any more wink I always liked the idea of the 3 door used as a van.

Can't imagine one without the impossibly light steering though!

my old RHD one on tobago was work-spec. originally used by some embassy in port of spain as a pool car we were told. fabric, manual windows and locks, no p/s, steel wheels etc. had air-con but never used it, i suspect it wouldn't be in working order

New pitman arm fits - although the rotation on the spline is enough to have put the steering wheel 90 degrees out. Hopefully there's enough adjustment on the drag arm to realign it (or the steering wheel can be moved).
