.....doing a job in the West of Scotland, in the company V8 county. We needed to put a tactical radio system up on the top of a hill, so pulled into a farm yard, and asked the wee laddie "how do you get up the radio mast ?".
Oh, that's easy, just go through that gate, and keep going, so we did. 3 or 4 miles into the climb, I went over the brow of a hill, to be met with what looked like a bowling green, flat, green and smooth as silk. Except it wasn't. The landrover sunk almost instantly to the floor pan, and there it stayed. The Defender 110 behind was warned off, and then the fun began. We dig, winched, used ground anchors, hi lift jacks, and the other vehicle as a solid, stable object, but to no avail.
It took 3 weeks, and a tracked excavator to get it back, and the farmer charged us £1000 (bargain).

As a footnote, we seriously considered abandoning it there, and letting the peat bog eat it, as the cost effective, least damaging solution.
When we eventually got it back, it turned out that there was a hard road to the mast, up the back of the hill, but the little lad never pointed us that way !

.As a footnote, when we went back to get it, the farmer took us into his garage, and there was an immaculate E-type, surrounded by motorbikes like Vincents, and the like around all the walls.
He took the E type in as payment for a debt, wonder if we (and our like) paid for the motorbikes from "recovery fees".
