there was one at al awir when del and i visited. sold for 400k iirc. only 6kms apparently but the scrappy paint and interior didn't reflect that.

went up to ajman AGAIN today and its was closed AGAIN! grrr..... on the way back i very nearly ran of of petrol, what's the deal with the shortages up there?

on the way back, popped into sharjah car souk and there is a stunningly lovely 993 c2s with manual box, but too much for my wallet at 175k. there's a minty 964 c2 in there as well for 85k but didn't give it much of a look as it's a tiptronic.

however, half an hour later i drove dusty's 964 around ras al khor and was mightily impressed, the tiptronic box was nowhere near as terrible as i would have imagined and the whole package feels ideal as a daily proposition. did get a little carried away though, resulting in our picture being taken by those annoying cameras in the middle of the dual carriageway biggrin

PS - del, did you manage to make any enquiries re: a trackday toy before you headed home?

Here you are internet stranger (although in fairness we have had 'a' beer a couple of times)

Although i know absolutely sod all about you, here is the key to my pride and joy, my 964.
Whats that? No, i have no idea how you drive, i dont even know for sure if you have a license, still, here is the key, do your worst!

What was the phrase you used mate? 'I MUST find the emirates road'

Well, you found it- albeit quicker than envisaged. Very compact car the 964- it will make a lovely photo of the two of us!!!!!!!!

When i said 'stick it in 2nd and get your foot down' i assumed that you may (what with being in control of the vehicle at the time) may have been keeping watch for the cameras!!!!

Good to see you again though mate- even with your unholy anti-tiptronic views.

with a bit of luck they'll overlook the fine because we were grinning so much and clearly enjoying life in the desert!

in any other country i wouldn't have taken the keys even if it was insured. very good of you for the drive mate even though it was the first time we'd met sober!

Tried to enquire matey, but got nowhere.
Then found, viewed, deposited, contracted and rented a villa all in the space of the 24hrs before flying (and on a DXB public holiday too).... so the track-toy sort of took a back seat for a while!

Am back on Jul 10th.... beer and a catch up on the Thursday???

If I'm here then sounds good to me. Might have moved myself by then hopefully.

Went to Ajman last night with a colleague. The v8 in the 260 is in better nick than it looks, car itself quite tidy, but there's no way that thing will ever be road legal. Sounded like the proverbial god of thunder gargling nails.

Anyway, this may be premature and a jinx but I think I may be sorted. Fell in lust with a 964 last night in Sharjah and left a holding deposit earlier post test-drive. Need an inspection doing asap so who's best - A2B, Alex Renner or A.N.Other? Also, who's best for decent tyres?

In case you're wondering, it's not Dusty's, though I owe him beers for showing me the tip ain't as bad as I imagined and for the buying advice earlier - even after I told him I was looking elsewhere.
