BMW Dealer AGMC - is this normal, wtf?
Discussion
S1MMA - just seen this thread - really interesting, though sorry to hear of your troubles. I am considering a BMW X5 4.8 2006 with over 110k on the clock. Having had some time to reflect - is it still a NOOOOOOO? I want an SUV for under 50k and was considering BMW X5/Porsche Cayenne/Merc ML/Range Rover or VW Touraeg. All thoughts welcome from the PH community!
Hi.
I have 2008 V6 Touareg which has been our family car for the last two years. It's very easy to drive and feels very solid, which my wife likes. It has god power but not as torquey as the V8, obviously. It's been reasonably cheap to run, which is good as my other car usually isn't. Just watch out for the prop shaft bearing, which goes at approx 100k Km's. Theyre also very good value in my opinion. I'm looking at upgrading ours to the V8 version with twin climate but that puts you close to Q7 money, which then gives you seven seats. You might also consider the Cayenne, which is quite similar in design but more powerful and better specced.

Are XC90s any good? I'm not fussed that their design is ageing massively...just fancy comfort, safety and occasional 7 seat use.
It's excellent on all three criteria. Just be careful on costs: like most Euro SUVs in the desert heat, they tend to get expensive after the 5 year mark.Onetrackmind said:

Touareg sounds like a good shout. Have you found it fun to drive? What sort of price bracket would I be looking at for a 2006/2007 model with say 100,000km on the clock?I have 2008 V6 Touareg which has been our family car for the last two years. Not sure I'd call it fun to drive, but it's nice and comfy place to be. Think they were facelifted in 2007 with a nicer front end and better engines. Prob 60k for a 2007/8 V6 3.6ltr 280bhp on 100k. V8's are more but you get 350bhp 4.2ltr. Older shaped ones are a bit cheaper.
Other good value Euro SUV's are the XC90, Mazda CX9, Grand cherokee. Although if you want something 'fun' get an SRT8 grand cherokee if I were you.

There's two garages with the DAS acronym.
DAS auto works who I believe are reputed amongst the BMW crowd and IIRC Yorky used to have his M3 serviced there.
Deutsche Auto Services is owned by Barbz who is THE man in dubai for Lancia Integrales and staffed by 2 mental Estonians. They focus on european cars and do engine builds, dyno tuning etc. as well as servicing. Jase has his cars there and they are doing the build for Zettanet's Integra 24H racer. Top guys.

Note to self. Never buy an old X5. Money pit.
On the E30 M3, I took mine to Autohaus and let Tibor get stuck into it. He knows them like the back of his hand. I was impressed with the work they did and I also had a "Glass Polish" done on the car. Looks the nuts now. I did drop around 15,000AED on getting the car mint though.
