Wow that what you get for rushing a reply. i only have 28 days, but i can not do anything until i get my VISA stamped, but they seems to be a disaster. AS another guy has had his emirates ID refused and hence can not get his VISA sorted! So he is now panicing a little!
Ah right 28 days, o.k not so much time to think on places then lol

Once you get the visa you really need to get a bank account sorted asap. Alot of the places I viewed they wouldnt take it off the market without the security deposit cheque, commission cheque and also the first few or 6 months rent cheque in hand. As I was initially looking and had no bank account it was a bit of a chew on to say the least!

Mine took the best part of 6 hours to get.
30 mins for mine including eye test. it's getting the replacement i am told i have to do on my own. requires a police report, usual passport etc. and then waiting for an eternity at the RTA. i may see if a bottle of scotch will persuade our PRO to assist.

i find it staggering that you guys are having to fend for yourself, particularly with government contracts.

Bloody hell, you had to do it all yourself? The AUH Company I work for puts 100's of people through that process daily (we have our own time slots for Mussafah I believe). If you are of "pale faced" origins, you get shoved to the front of any and all queues - amazing.

We did at one stage have our own medical check facilities here in our H/O building, complete with female nurses!

Not what i was expecting my previous employer (Dubai) based done everything quickly and had a HR guy with me who knew the process inside out!

I am gettingthe stuff ready for the bank account, NOC letter, Salary Certificate. I wish i could open an account using my entry Visa.

How long does it take to turn around a cheque book? Also how long does it take for a cheque to clear here?

Uae cheque in dirhams will be same day if deposited before 11 according to 'er indoors (works for Lloyds).

Cheque book will take a week or so to arrive I guess, think I have only written 3 or 4 in 5 years.

Bugger, that is not what i wanted to here. Will the agents not cash cash for deposit? and agency fees? My employer is raising a cheque for the yearly rent. Looks like i am well and truly stuck.

You mean can you pay fees and deposit in cash?

Don't see why not, just get a receipt.

Out of the 3 agents I was dealing with on properties I was serious about 1 would take cash for the commission but wanted a cheque for the security deposit and rent, the other 2 only wanted cheques.

If your company is putting up the rent as a cheque then great your in an easy enough position and im sure the agent will take cash for the commission!

That's about as likely as applying for something out here and getting it all done on the first visit!

Jason are you in DXB or AUH?

As things seem a bit easier in Dubai

It's a Abu Dhabi reqistered company but I live in Dubai so the bank, car etc are in dubai. I have a HSBC account in the UK so got one here, you can link link the two accounts together move money instantly found it quite hepful.

When i opened the bank account and car etc I lived in a hotel so just used the work address, nothing stopping you coming to Dubai to open accounts or hire a car.

using work address for everything is standard practice and means there's a good chance the post gets delivered. also get the bank to come to you, much easier that way.
