Matters not that the engines are not tuned, I understand that they were supplied with the intakes removed and carbs fitted? I know how much the DA paid for them too, in 2008, with waranty.

Who is Sam?
my flatmate, sent you the CV and met you at the last race. you know, ugly looking fella with a hunchback and limp,so slow around a track we did a rolling pitstop.

he has the full story but the build has been checked out by NFS who also bought a couple. not sure on price but ~$4k springs to mind.

Oh, that Sam paperbag

While you snuggle up on the sofa tonight could you get him to mail me with price and specification, plus a contact name at the Autdrome. Cheers.

He's in Italy, I'm in the UK. I'm sure he will see this when he gets back.

Oh dear....

Had a response from the DXB owner of an Ultima - not good...

Lowlights for me were:

AED400k build cost, although that does include the engine from American Speed in the US. If the DA has cheaper LS7 engines available I may well be able to shave a chunk off this.

650 hours build time. Averaging 8-10 hours a week this is around 14-18 months. In a rental Figo frown

Sweat-box - AC is not that great and with the rad pipes just outside the cockpit it gets mighty warm inside. Not able to drive for 4 months of the summer.

Bottoms out on the wide speedbumps. And there are lots of those in DXB!

...And the big one - although he built his 4 years ago and things may have changed a little; he can only register as a race car and only drive to and from the track. Oh dear.

So to the mitigation...

Cost is not too much of an issue, a DA engine will help with that.

AC is for girls. I can handle the heat.

With help from spanner-hands we can reduce build time.

Speedbumps may be solved with adjustable ride height arms, one guy even did his hydraulic...

Registration, anyone know where to get info on kit car registration?

I am sure we can make the AC work better, insulate the rad pipe work, cabin etc. You can get airbags for coilivers

http://www.universalairsuspension.com/store2/catal...

So reg is the issue, i would check on the dubai peterol heads forum as there have been a few cobra kit builds

Problem is, she will need all the cooling those pipes can offer. It seems that they are prone to running hot, even in the UK....

I'm liking the coilover airbags....but not the price! And I don't think there is much room for the air tank smile

There is a uk company that does the airbags cheaper but i cannot remember the name, and I am sure there is scope to improve the AC.

the cost and registration are the only two options see there, everything else is merely an engineering issue. tons of resources for these cars and heavy duty cooling & a/c is easy enough.

did he self build? have you asked on the ultima forum here about build cost? double edged sword as you havea lot of freedom in supplier but you will have to import absioutely everything.

he's clearly lying to the RTA about his registration as i have never once seen the car at DA. i'd speak to the guys on GPH about how they're registering their factory five cars.

I quite like the SLC http://superlitecars.com/

The chassis is mono-alloy rather than the tube and it looks much easier to get in and out of. Seems a bit more build-friendly too.

Thoughts?

Like the look of hat SLC.

Would those prices be 20% less due I you not having to pay VAT as I assume you will be shipping overseas?

if you're talking alternatives, accept no substitute:

http://www.race-car-replicas.com/rcr917.html

however the RTA don't like pathfinders and you have next to no chance registering the first of any type of low volume vehuicle. much easier to go where others have been first. stick to the ultima or a cobra daytona coupe.

I know of an Ultima that is registered here on Dubai plates - not sure if it's the same one being discussed here. Wasta can get anything done if need be.

RTA are pretty open with low-volume cars nowadays - takes a bit of work, but can be done. I met the chap who's personally brought two Rally Fighters in from the States (ahead of proper sales starting through official channels at the end of the year) and he got the RTA to register the marque into the system after spending a bit of time finding the right person to speak to.

I have been in touch with the guy - its a limited Race Car Registration and is only really valid to and from the track. Go figure.

I might get in touch with the RTA. Surely there must be a procedure.....

Unless the Autodrome has moved to the side of SZR (where I've seen it driving in traffic), I'd take that with a pinch of salt. RTA registration is registration - if it's track only, they'd tell you to trailer/recovery it there. His insurance might only cover it for to and from track, but if it's got number plates it can be on the road.

Wasta can get anything registered, but also plain perseverance can get you there eventually - as per the Rally Fighter guy. That's a self-built kit car too, so much the same.

Dan,

you have been through a lot of this heart-ache in the past with the "blue beastie" in terms of registration and getting it on the DA track.

Why go through all this again?
