I believe both mine and my wife's offices would be in DIFC. No idea how large this are is, so no idea how close they are to each other.

Would definitely want Villa living. Too old for apartments now - been there, and done that!

This is a very useful link. Shows where all the communities and districts are so you can get a better idea what is near to where. Handy when trying to figure out places to live near to work etc. Enter DIFC in to the search box and off you go!

Cheers.
According to the wife it is every Friday...... and lets not forget the UAE Desert Challenge between 3rd and 10th April where I will be helping a expat 2 bike team (Vendetta Racing).

Lets also not forget that it is free yes FREE entry into the stands and pit area on race days.

Apart from eGate I reckon that has to be the most useful thing Dubai has ever produced, great link, never seen it before

Though don't rely on it for the road network and definately don't assume that everything it shows has actually been built!
It's not a bad start though!

Thanks TNW for that link. It does not work on a tablet which I was looking at last night, but does work on my laptop. I will take a look today to see if I can orientate myself!

So quick question....

My work would be in DIFC and living would possibly be in Arabian Ranches (only because I have heard good things, and have friends living there already). What would the estimated commute time be?

20 minutes sounds about right as I live in MotorCity (next door to Ranches with villas and apartment) with my office being in Deira and that only takes 30 minutes.

That depends on what time you leave though... when I was considering moving to the Ranches last year I drove up there really early and did a simulated run from Al Reem to JLT. (I need to be in JLT by 8am)

I gave up on the idea of living in the Ranches when it took me 15 minutes to even leave the development... it ended up taking nearly 40 minutes to get to JLT and apparently the traffic only gets worse from that time of day onwards.

The Ranches would be an awesome little street circuit if it wasn't for the bloody speed humps.

Wouldn't be so bad if they went for decent traffic calming over semi cylindrical bumps.

Ranches is not so bad if you want to head towards Dubai on the E311 (Emirates Road or has it new name now?) rather than AUH / Umm Sequim road / Hessa Street.

You can blame JESS School for this.

for southern end of town just live on the opposite side of the ranches near the polo club, straight onto umm suqieum or e111 south/hessa st.

If the OP looking at a detached villa then Saheel (iirc) is probably the best location to access both exits.

Al Reem side would be a nightmare.

Fwiw from JVT which is further down Emirates Road away from DIFC to DIFC is 20 mins for me, using Al Khail.

MotorCity has a villas areas / town houses area which gives excellent access to Emirates Road in all directions.

Victory Heights mus be worth a look as well I guess?

Villas always look nicer, from the Golf Course at least!

Els Clubhouse is open now as well, so there is booze 'on site'.

i think all victory heights villas have proper double garages as well. same with the greens but they're a bit far out.

Guys,

Some good information above - much appreciated.

The commute time will definitely have a bearing on where we choose to live. We currently both have over an hour commutes each way in UK (less if on motorbikes), and we are looking at reducing this.

We do not have our hearts set on Arabian Ranches, is just we know people that went out recently and live there, hence it is an idea to look there.

Our requirements are:-

1) 3/4 bedrooms - so people can visit
2) Maid room - just in case
3) Study (could be a bedroom)
4) Garden - Mrs loves gardening, and cats need somewhere to run around
5) Garage - I cannot see me giving up my motorbike fix - be it road/track or dirt (or all 3!)

Aside from that we are easily pleased!!
