I forgot to add that if I renew it will be the second year which I thought meant that can't increase. Currently paying 200k for a 3 bed and they are now asking 230k for next year.

Second year thing was changed ages ago.

Wait for the index to be updated and base everything on that, that should be your communication to the owner as well.

Would be amazed if you had to pay an extra 30k.

My place in Meadows 2 could have been increased by 5% but the owner values continuity more than profit and so has kept the rent the same for the renewal.
At last, good news for someone at least..

Long time no hear. Must catch up soon mate..

Bumpety bump..

Apartment has been sold and I've had an email reminder to get out at the end of the contract (by 28th Feb) or renew at a rate I can't quite fathom the workings of until 6th April which is the date the agent said they sent a letter to me by courier to say the place was going to be sold. I didn't get that letter, but I did get one which I signed for from a courier in late July which was dated 6th April..

Arabic notice stamped with Dubai Courts etc taped to my door late October basically saying the place was sold at the end of September and I think saying I have 12 months, (I'd better get that officially translated as a friend's translation probably missed some of the legal bits). I didn't sign for it, it was simply taped to my door one day.

Agent doesn't know about this, (at least I've not mentioned it and neither have they), but they tell me that have no idea of the intentions of the new owner and have gone quiet. I've not pestered as I wanted to get within the 90 days notice they should have given me to raise the rent by the RERA allowed amount. I am now in that and have heard nothing about any rise.

So, I think that means that at worst I have until 30th September 2015 to get out, but quite possibly have 12 months to vacate, (with an as yet unspecified start date), although legally that is only if the new owner wants to move in themselves/immediate family. Added to that, as they have not told me within 90 days of an increase, they now can't do even a RERA allowed increase.

If all of that is correct, I am sure they will try to screw me over one way or another, but legally I think they can't. I'm going to sit tight another few days and then point this out to them I think.. Given the amount of construction in front of the building now I was seriously thinking of moving out anyway, but it would be far easier to swap to the spare bedroom and use the master as the occasional spare/office..
