So if it's announced in the next few days, when would we expect the "holiday" to begin/end? During Ramadan or an addition on the end?

As with another poster I'm supposed to be going to KSA this week or next, but can happily delay that should it be beneficial to stick around.

It would start immediately and end at the notified time - private and public offices will have different durations.

It would run concurrently with Ramadan.

Basically all the locals will turn nocturnal.

the point of keeping him on ice until now is:

a] it's seen as a better time to die, ignoring the fact that having him on life support for aaaaaages is completely disrepectful to him and his family.
b] rolling it into ramadan reduces the economic impact.

the public sector do sweet fk all anyway so their abscence is hardly going to be noticed. a week off for private sector will have an effect but most are on 2pm finish anyway.

Just supposing the switch is flicked, and as a result one departed Saudi sharpish back to DXB as a result of the shutdown.

Would Dubai Duty Free at the Airport be open? smile

ETA: Just spoke to Mrs Oilydan (she works in a semi-gov't position) and she tells me that a woman who knows a man close to THE man told her that he is up and walking around.

Cover up or over enthusiastic DXB rumor mill? I guess we won't know until the fat lady sings.

what's generally regarded as being the holiest day in ramadan? odds on that'll be the one. if they're being slightly less obvious i'd pick any friday, likely this one.

Last 10 days, but the specifically holiest day is the 27th night I believe. It will be announced shortly before exactly which night that is this year.

So, is this happening this week? Or will be saved for next year?

That would negate the whole lessening impact reason though.

Then again, applying logic and reason is always a dangerous game here.

I'll take that bet. A pint of beer says that the machine keeps beeping.

  • Disclaimer - I am not in the UAE where it would be wrong to gamble and drink beer during the Holy Month. smile

My boss has the same type of contact and has been told the same thing.... I'm starting to suspect that this whole thing might just be a storm in a teacup.

New cabinet approved..

A load of the locals my missus follows on instagram, Maktoums etc, posting photos of him wishing him well with his 'surgery'.

Let's see what tomorrow brings.

Edit - cabinet approval was in papers yesterday, appparently had another stroke this morning, hence all the messages, they're teeing it up surely..
