I probably get less than 50% hit rate on responses to ads I ask about. Despite sending notes with my name and contact details, people just dont respond.

Is there a way to get responses back, or does stuff just sell quickly and get left?

What you trying to buy?

From experience as a seller, if it is anything white good/electrical there will be 100's of guys with a van turning up at the seller before you've even read the ad!

Same with garden furniture as well actually

'What's your best price?'

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOFF!!!!

Any time I sell anything and I get a BP call, I say 1 million dirhams. They go a bit quite...

'But you have the sofa advertised for AED 2,000'

Indeed, however you asked me the best price. The best price for me is 1 million, two grand would be reasonable and anything less would be a waste of my time. When would you like to collect..?

One other time I had this Indian bloke pester me about something, so I started loiudly tapping stuff out on the calculator on my desk and then showed it to him... down the phone... hahaha - he got really wound up.

Well I asked about a car....I put the following....

Hi,

I am in interested in the car, I have a few questions but would be keen to come and see it. My mobile number is xxxxxxx, please drop a text or mail on when would be convenient.

Regards

Hugh

Nothing back.... I sent a chaser a few days later, similar lines, but saying you might not have got first note, and I'm keen etc. etc. ---- nothing.....

Not the first time. When I last looked for a car, the first 10 ads I responded to, I got details back from 3. The others were dead....even 2 days after they were posted.

Oh if anyone knows anything about 996 GT3 on dubizzle, like the who the owner is, please let me know. :-)

Bazaar mentality that many westerners and western educated/influenced people might have a hard time understanding...

Having a look at the various ads, I was surprised with the "perfect inside and out" comments with quite obvious imperfections!

Not even there yet (dealing with the joy of shipment quotations at the moment and likely to be on the ground by middle to late May) and I have been looking at cars.

Cadillac STS is high on the list and a nice complement to the barges I owned in the UK. They also seem to be fairly well priced too.

Having just sold my Jeep via dubizzle, from a seller's perspective I prefer people just to phone me and be ready to come and view the car that day. If you can't commit to seeing the car within 4 hours of phoning up, then there's no point in calling.

Trying to organise people from all walks of life and areas of Dubai is too much hassle to deal with - people come to me, if they're interested in buying - they arrived.

'Best Price?' knobbers got dealt with in short shrift.

Ring up, view the car that evening, ask me all the questions you like and take it for a test drive. If you wanna buy it, tell me then and give me cash/cheque. Don't hold out for anyone who's 'gotta check with my wife/friend/mate who has a garage' - they never come back.

The selling process for the last 2 cars I've sold went exactly the same:

Days 1-6 - 2 calls a day, one 'best price' and one who came to view, kick the tyres and have to 'check with the wife'
Days 7-13 - nothing whatsover
Days 14 - calls from British guys interested. One has to check with his wife to view it, the other sees it that evening, wants to buy, gives me the cash and we do the transfer next day. Job Done.

In my opinion it is because they have made it too easy for people to keep their ads "Featured". Which can be done by paying extra.

It's best to upload your ads on more than one classifieds website i.e in this case http://www.autotraderuae.com can be a good alternative.

Hope it helps smile

I understand not wanting to mess around with people who get cars checked, however, I got both of ours checked at garages. If you buying a 100,000AED car, spending 500AED to check the stuff you cant - just makes sense.

The story of this one is now complete. The chap did come back to me, and I went to see the car (next day, couldnt make it that eve). Not the one for me. However, I did mail the chap to let him know that I didnt want to buy it.
