We're working normal hours too, the lady doing my pedicure says I should get paid over time, I laughed and laughed and laughed.

Rach i'm working 12hrs a day everyday, so dry yer eyes!

Also thinking of fasting the rest of ramadan as I realised had it not been for one meal I would have done so since eid.

10 hours of back to back patients, does not make for a happy hygienist. Load me up with painkillers for the duration!

Are they good enough to at least admit they are breaking labour laws?

Ramadan news? Yep. Looks like I will be spending most of it in Dubai! I am still in the office by 07:30 but leaving about 4pm which means I should be spending some time in the golf driving range.

Popped to Emirates yesterday afternoon, managed 1 stack of balls before I was sick of wiping sweat out of my eyeballs!

Our working hours have reduced (for a well known local group) which means the office is empty by 14:30 and I can actually get some work done between 14:30-18:00 without being pestered - I love Ramadan.

Nope.
Also is it the norm to have your holiday pay withheld until the end of the year?

Never heard of holiday pay. Unless they mean that they dock your pay for days you take off and pay you back at the end of the year? Something similar was tried on me as I wanted to take a couple of days off during my probation period.

First two years I was here, (have I been here this long already?) I was told verbally that Ramadan laws/hours etc did not apply to me as I was not Muslim so ended up working normal hours..

I don't receive my basic if I'm on leave and get it back end of the year.

Only people in the whole of Dubai that aren't entitled to Ramadan hours are non-faster in DIFC, which I am and I still get Ramadan hours.

Every other freezone HAS to comply with it.

Holiday in probation (first 3 months) is usually unpaid ime.

I'm on Ramadan hours, 8am to 2pm only.
Weirdly though most of my colleagues seem to have no interest in leaving the office at 2 and are staying much later.... Very odd!

Our office allows none Muslims to 'volunteer' to stay until normal finish if they want to.

One senior guy has left at 2 both ramadans in the 2yrs he's been there. It hasn't done his career any favours. We have a very generous bonus scheme which is designed to encourage additional effort.

The holiday pay thing sounds well dodgy.

We work the full hours including the kettle and people get overtime for the additional time as it the only way we can pay any kind of bonus to the staff

Short days here too (FZE - 9to3), but still have a shed load to do when I get home so still no better off.

Seen some right carnage on the roads already though.

Currently wondering what the situation is when although I've not been told directly to work longer hours, the only way I will get done what we promised we would do will be the majority of the week being 12hour days.. Annoyingly in Abu Dhabi. Still, at least I will miss tonights Iftar carnage..
