Hi,

About to take the plunge and buy a new Dodge Durango R/T from the main dealer. 193k AED with DVD.
Is there anything I should know, positive. negative or otherwise??

E.g. there is no facelift in the pipeline or an SRT8 model about to come out is there?

Thanks!

If it helps I bought a '14 Durango Citadel for the family wagon back in March. Been very pleased with it when I get to drive it as it is a battle with the wife to get the keys.

5.7 Hemy, 8 speed paddle box and decent handling from such a monster - it is a blast to drive, putting your foot down it has a wonderful growl. Fuel economy is obscenly bad but I guess this is one of the few places you can indulge. Servicing is good value, interior fit is very good.

The RT with a firmer ride & bucket seats would have been my own choice but I was vetoed.

The '14 was the mid cycle makeover with a new model in 2017 I believe.

No hesitation in recommending it assuming it is the 5.7…. this is Pistonheads after all.

Quick update:

As far a 7 seater SUV goes its better then a lot of other offerings, however it has the following issues:

1. Steering feel is lacking - it will accelerate effortlessly, but the steering remains light and so feedback on bends is broadly non-existant.

2. Suspension - it tends to nose dive on braking, even light braking at higher speeds, there is also too much body roll, and although the seats look grippy they are not and so body roll is amplified by you and your stuff being chucked from side to side.

3. Navigation - is OK but doesn't recognise certain newer roads, and can have you going round in circles.

The first 2 points above really kills the point of having the sporty 360 bhp small-ish 7 seater SUV from a driving perspective. It is fast though, in black looks mean, and sounds great. It is also very thirsty.

It's an American SUV, cant believe you're surprised by these points. Most Jap stuf, Sequoia, Armarda, are exactly the same as well.

7 seats for 200k, go for a 2013 LR4, not as much acceleration but a much better drive.

what he said, although depending on the tech you could look at adjusting the PAS pressure for more weight and swap the shocks/springs.

mate at work just bought an lr4 with the supercharged v6. lovely car, cracking interior and really belies it's heft when you're in a rush.

Cant comment on a Durango but I have the same engine in a Charger. The engine is lovely, sounds great on start up and is very effortless to drive. Gearbox is dumb witted at time, sometimes it will change down a gear one at a time under WOT.

I am averaging 14.2 mpg, the big SUV would probably be worse but it hardly matters
