Hi,

Im in Jumeirah Village Triangle

I am basically a beginner, I've been round a couple courses, all I've ever had is advice from friends which isn't ideal.

I would say 20% of all shots are okay, i haven't got anyone telling me what I'm doing wrong and how to correct it.

Thanks

Craig

Hey

I'm at about the same level as you, probably a bit worse to be honest.... have been meaning to take lessons ever since I got here.
If you fancy doubling up to lower the cost and have someone to play some practise rounds with I'd be more than interested.

Well you've 2 world class facilities on your door step, the ETPI at Jumeirah Golf Estates is awesome and the Butch Harmon Academy at Els.

Wayne Johnson runs the ETPI and is very good, Justin Parsons runs the Harmon academy. I'd choose ETPI, the Harmon style is a bit too by the numbers from what I have heard, I'd prefer a coach that works with what I have rather than break it all down and start again but I'm just a little bit more advanced wink

Both will probably be at the upper end cost wise and in honesty at your level you won't find a 'bad' coach out here really, have also heard Kenny is good, Creek is a more of a schlep to get to than the other two mentioned above.

I'd call around and ask about rates for a block of lessons, say 6 or 10 and post results here, try the two above, Creek and Emirates. Also ask about using the practice facilities for free when you are not having a lesson, see whether they'll let you.

Good time to ask, most should have some sort of summer promo going on, beware that it's bloody hard work at this time of year, I was at the Emirates range last night trying out some new gear, lasted 40 mins before I too much sweat in my eyes to carry on!

Edit - take Del up on his offer, always best to practice together, less boring and a bit of competition goes a long way

Wasn't really thinking about spending that level of cash to be honest.... would be happy with lessons at Arabian Ranches / Emirates.
If you're interested then let me know, I'm back in Dubai at the end of September... could be about the right time weather wise to start learning.

I'm also up for some lessons. I'm a complete beginner too, apart from a any evening at the montgomerie driving range which was so so.

I love the idea of golf, but just suck at it. Plus alot of people from work go, so a Thursday afternoon session would appeal!

You will often find me in the driving range at the Ranches on Saturday afternoons (~4:30pm) and Ghala Valley (Muscat) on Tuesday nights.

Bumping this back to the top again as with the advent of the cooler weather I think it's time to start looking...

I've been advised that the Els Club is a good place to have lessons, so is there any interest in forming a 2some or 3some to share the instructor and reduce the costs?

If there is interest then what days / times suit?

Perfect timing.

I was at the Els Club yesterday for a bite to eat and was just thinking I need to get something organized.

I'll be 100% in for this. Can do most evenings through the week (5pm onwards), or anytime over the weekend.

PM me your details and we'll get something arranged.

Del, there's an ex-pro golfer called David Gray (not the singer) that was really reasonable with the cost of his tuition. Not sure if he's still around, but he was on 050 459 8905.

Think he's up at the Els too.

No he isn't.

Stick with the guys at the Harmon Academy imo, John Howells is a good guy.

Waiting to hear back from the Els now regarding their cost structure for shared lessons....
Also going to have a look at the Ranches as its location is very convenient.

Couple of days late to this but I'd def be interested.... standard best described as beginner, had a couple of lessons a few years ago so know but wasted since. If anything being organised I'd certainly be keen.

Have heard back from the Els Club.

a 6 lesson package for 3 people works out to be 1,000 aed each with John Howells

If that cost is OK with both of you then I'll enquire about availability and see when we can start!

Brilliant - Sounds good. Evenings and Friday mornings best for me, Saturday's a bit tricky.

Perfect, sounds good to me.

How long are the lessons do you know?

My standard is complete amateur. I can hit off from a tee (just), but generally struggle just off the grass.

Gotta start somewhere I guess!

Well I reckon I'm at a lower level than you... in the last 18 years I have picked up a golf club once.
The lessons are around 50 minutes, I shall know the availability of the instructor tomorrow.

At the moment my first choice is a Monday evening at around 6pm, with Wednesday at 6pm as a backup. How do they sit with you both?
