Picked up the hire car on 3rd September, and received my first text this morning stating that I have a 600dhs fine collected on Friday (19th September), just over 2 weeks for first ticket. So should I extrapolate that over a year to 26 fines per year - that is quite a lot of cash!

I do remember seeing a large flash, but I have no idea where I was, or what speed I was going, or what the speed-limit was. I obviously was not paying enough attention though.

The biggest concern was this was in a Chevrolet Malibu - god knows what will happen when I get a real car.

Serious question now - as I know is not big and clever - is there a certain amount of fines you can have a year before you receive a "black mark"/points on your licence?

600 is the lowest bracket in excess of the limit, what road did you see the flash, I'd wager an Al Wasl/Beach road rather than Sheikh Zayed.

That fine won't attract any black points, you could do as many of those a year as you wanted, they dish them out for running reds, stuff like that and you can get up to 24 a year.

What's the reg of the rent a car I'll see if I can find a photo hehe

I think it was on Um Seqquiem (sp) but I am honestly not sure, it was late after being dragged around Dragon Mart by the wife, I know I came up Al Khail road, and then I cut across to SZR at some point and it was there.

Still trying to find my way around, so it could have been any road that connects the two!

Wouldn't want the embarrassment of my face in my Malibu being shared on here so no number plate!

I have been told that I need to pay this within 24 hrs online, or else I will get an additional 45dhs fine, but no explanation on how to make payment. Any ideas?

It'll be a photo of the plate only, will also give you location, worth checking at the below link, they misread a plate once and assigined it to my missus' car, just put in the reg number in plate number box and reg letter in plate code box

http://www.dubaipolice.gov.ae/dp/english/e_service...

I'd ask the car hire place if that is the case by the way, usually they pay them and then charge you, plus an additional admin fee, it can be paid online at the same link

First day in the hire car I got a 1000aed

Yaris can do over 140 on SZR an as there are some many cameras any car will get you fines, unless it a jeep set up for desert work.

Yep, that's the pole type camera inbetween the Emirates ID office and the Eppco with a Maccas in it as you're approaching the south east corner of TECOM.

Was following a Golf on my way back from Abu Dhabi last night and he had an interesting tactic for getting people out of his way on the fast lane - very bright lights which he would flash as the car ahead passed a camera. The number of people clearly doing about 140 who anchored up and pulled over was quite astonishing. Was mentally debating whether he was being clever to think of a way through the traffic or a bloody idiot for doing that to people at that speed when I saw a 4x4 virtually lock up and swerve right into the next lane. That would have been very messy had there been anyone there..
