I was going to upgrade the Z3 next year to something with a bit more oomph - don't think I will bother now.
Although after a quick check of dubizzle, there is a fair choice of 4x4's and sporty models available already and it was only announced yesterday.
Someone was mentioning that it was likely to be similar to what the USA pay so it would roughly be between 4-6 AED/L
Either way it sucks.

here are my comments that are in the Gulf News today...
The news has only been announced today, so we are not yet in a position to comment fully on how the new rules may affect the price of fuel and the knock on effects to the general public. But if we look at the price of diesel, which is not subsidized in Dubai, then you can see that the is a significant difference in the prices, and if petrol moves towards the diesel price, then consumers could see a considerable increase in the cost of a tank of petrol, which will obviously have a negative impact on residents' cost of living, and it could lead to an increase in inflation.
Comments made around the subject have indicated that the price of petrol is likely to increase and diesel may decrease. While diesel is mainly used for freight and transportation, most people if they have a car, it will run on petrol. So when we fill our cars up we will immediately see the increase in the cost of the fuel, whereas the diesel price will take longer to reach the consumer as it flows through the supply chain. With the price of oil currently at a relatively low point, the immediate effect may not be so noticeable, but if oil moves back towards $100 a barrel, then this may lead to further increases in the price at the pumps.
In summary, these new rules may lead to an increase in the cost of living for residents, and, as such, consumers need to keep an eye on the price of petrol.
If petrol moves to a similar price to diesel, then we are looking at AED3 a litre - but this is with oil at $57 a barrel... oil goes up to $100, and it will be over AED6 per litre. Not good! Anyone want a 6.4l V8?!! (actually I have been getting around 14l/100km, which is about 20mpg, so not so bad...!)

Anyone with a fuel inefficient car is going to see the value of that car plummet as people change to more fuel efficient cars. The upside of this (to us) is that there could be some cheap performance cars available in the near future! Not so good if you own fuel inefficient car now. Ford Raptors at AED 30k in three months time!

It will be interesting to see what happens since if they change out of Car A with value dropping like a stone and into Car B, they are immediately the cost difference out of pocket. Like solar panels, I wonder how long it would take for the fuel savings on Car B to offset the 'changeover' cost.Edited by Onetrackmind on Thursday 23 July 16:29
In that time, you presumably 'lose' the enjoyment aspect of the presumably big, comfortable and fast car you had to a smaller one.
Key factor is probably the buy-in cost for Car A in the first place and whether new (a lot more to lose) or used (less to lose so perhaps better to keep it).
Won't change my preference for the bigger cars with the large engines but I can't see myself ever buying new in the first place so some immediate savings to be had there.
Now...perhaps time for a cheeky offer on a Maybach 62 I saw in Ras Al Khor :-)
