Is there a Cars & Coffee in Dubai for ME PistonHeaders, I wonder? As much fun as it is to drink overpriced beers, I'd quite like to look at the cars too...
You would think that all being ex-pats living here, that people would want to meet up, but it does not seem to work like that. People have their own things to do, and travel a lot, or get a nosebleed if they leave their local! I have been here 14 months now, and so far in that time I have only met:-- Shirt, Jase, and SamNorthy (and some others whose usernames I cannot remember) as they were already out doing a track day at the autodrome, and we went for a curry.
- ChrisQuy a couple of times for beers
- DXBTiger who I randomly bump into in bars where he is trying to watch egg-chasing, or at the golf club
- Chilli as he cannot beat me at golf, so to get my confidence back up I play him frequently
- Dusty who wears a disguise beard now thinking I won't recognise him, as he owes me a night on the piss
You need to follow the "Field of Dreams" route. Book something, post it, and see who turns up. You may have a lonely coffee, but it is the only way forward if you want to meet people.
FWIW - if I am in Dubai I will come along, but I don't like coffee.
Thanks Fats. We all have lives, but mine does not include golf balls (although they have one use that I found out: you can use a golf ball to hold a car on a small incline so that you don't have to leave the handbrake on after some time on the track/fast road.)
One of the reasons I like cars is that I can meet petrol heads and talk bks about cars, whether at the track, or at a coffee shop, or even a simple car park; not necessarily something you can do with wives, friends, or colleagues.
So I'll do what you suggest. You can have tea, of whatever takes your fancy! I'll just wait for the car (we have the worst PRO ever) as I can't face showing up in the rent/a/wreck that my wife is mostly using.

There are several car meets here they are just not that widely published
Last weekend there was a car coffee style meet, autocross at the autodrome and a rally in sharjah
Motoring Middle East normally list most of the event on their website, and you normally get a few people out at cafe rider on a Friday morning

there are meets but i'm not a fan of the 'scene' as it were.
there's a decent group of us [frankie, jase, sam, h, ct84] who attend most trackdays and evolve autocross events. then theres rich and ian who are into race and rally management/spannering.
the others i dont see so often. shame as the last proper night we had [years ago, karting and the pub] was a lot of fun

Few weeks away from decent weather so trackdays about to start which means I can see all your ugly mugs again.there's a decent group of us [frankie, jase, sam, h, ct84] who attend most trackdays and evolve autocross events. then theres rich and ian who are into race and rally management/spannering.

Superstars challenge to be arranged again soon as well.
As has been said, with the weather cooling down a lot of the car clubs start organising drives and meets. Evolve's Fun Speed run (AutoX) has just started with the next one at the beginning of November. Drives will also start soon too.
God damn I miss those Fun Speed runs - not much fun driving around in a Honda CRV!

You have a Honda! We have a rent-a-wreck Mazda6 automatic, kindly arranged by the company. It's OK except that it's underpowered, it has what feels lime stratospheric mileage, it has mismatched and cheapo front tyres and an ominous clonking from the front right so the handling is out. In fact, it's so st that I've basically given up driving it.
