Phil,I cannot believe I am going to say this, but as I will be soon moving to West Africa, I was given a budget and list of cars I could choose from within that budget (it was a very short list) - I have gone for the 2.4l Hyundai Santa Fe. I have never considered them for me as a car, but having spend the last 18 months in Peru, they (Kia / Hyundai) have become attractive (there is so much crap here).
Think I should get my coat and man badge as I leave hahahaha

tbh the kia is not a bad car. sure its uninspiring and boring with acres of plastic inside, but nothing from the EU could touch it as this price point. its the kind of car you'd recommend to your mum. safe, practical and with an amazing warranty.
where in west africa are you headed?
Ghanawhere in west africa are you headed?
There seem to be a couple of events coming up: I've seen an Evolve Fun Run and a Porsche UAE wet handling event on the 6th. Anyone attending?
It did occur to me that I might have a bit of an advantage in the wet handling, but then I realized that (a) I'm new to my 911 and (b) I've got more experience with proper winter conditions (I came here from 15 years in Finland).

Put your name down for the Evolve Fun Speed run - its at Dubai Autodrome, so is relatively safe (except for those who forget to secure their hoods!).It did occur to me that I might have a bit of an advantage in the wet handling, but then I realized that (a) I'm new to my 911 and (b) I've got more experience with proper winter conditions (I came here from 15 years in Finland).
The list looks big but believe you me, some of those will not turn up. So, put your name down, turn up a bit earlier and you will get in.
