Does anyone know if it is a fact that once a car hits 5 years of age, you can only get third party insurance on it? Discussion at work...

Just insured my 2008 Land Rover fully comp with Axa.

Renewed my 2008 Cadillac through RSA fully comp in July. Not sure what will happen next year.

My 2008 Touareg is insured fully comp with Axa but I'm not sure if they go to max of 7 or ten years old for fully comp policies. There are a couple of insurance companies (Axa and Union) that are trying to offer fully comp policies for older cars but last I heard they still hadn't been fully approved.

Fully Comprehensive on the wifes car that is 9 years old.

The only company I could find that would insure my Vette when it hit 7 years old was AIG and the premium was insane at first. I argued for a while with RSA who I've been with since I arrive in Dubai in 2007 and they eventually agreed to continue as fully comp. They only just now came back and said the same about the Bentley that it will not be given fully comp on renewal so I'm going through it again with them! Again AIG was insane price.

Ten years is the cut-off, not five. After that it is difficult to find anything more than third party cover, unless it is a highly specialised or agreed value classic policy

As above 10 years then its game over.

Most don't like to or will refuse to give fully comp after 5 years unless you were previously insured fully comp with them, not sure why.
