Shipping a car to the Dordogne

I will soon need a new car moved from Sussex to the Dordogne. I want this to be in a covered wagon. So far I have checked out Cars UK, Polygon, Straight 8 and Kentvale. I know we have a few car buffs on the forum, so does anyone here have experience of any reliable firms? Thanks.

I have to ask , why not drive it there ? I'm not trying to be funny , serious question .
Depending on exact destination it's gonna be around 600 miles give or take a few and a 10 hour journey .

A fair question. It is about 500 miles to my house from the UK dealership. But the likely weather at that time of year, and no weather gear or windscreen is putting me off. May sound odd, but I do not want my first experience of ownership to be a nightmare!

Classic Haul or Lizard Logistics are highly regarded but covered transport wont be cheap.
Estimate around £1.50 per mile + ferry.

And a very fair point , it's a long way in the rain , good luck in finding someone . I'll keep my eyes open for you as I have a house down that way , no roof or screen , you'll be the guy with a good tan !

Apart from the fact I just bought a Stilo full face helmet so as to avoid chips in my head!

I have a chap called Michel, he doesn't have a covered wagon, but a big old Silverado with a flatbed. He's based in Nantes and has done a few jobs for me for around the 700-800 mark...Kent to Perigueux.

Very reliable and an enthusiast....

Or you could try uship....you can post the job and spec and various firms bid on the job... Using uship I've found a few reliable firms who are always doing part loads....useful for furniture, bikes etc...

You really have to watch ref insurance most esp as mentioned above the man & van couriers on the bid sites, or removals firms doing cars, they will have (if you are lucky & they have any!) Freight insurance that is CMR, its for freight, so worst case of damage or total loss you will get back approx £800 a tonne! So a cheque for a grand or so for a total loss or badly damaged expensive sports car.

Car specific insurance for Europe, especially sports & classic cars is not easy or cheap to get proper cover, I pay approx £6k a year over the basic cover the cowboys have to get it.
