Friend of a friend approached me regarding his Golf Gti to give it a bit of a re-fresh, now I will be the first to admit I don't particularly like doing white or even silver cars because getting any noticeable before/after improvements are very difficult to see, both to the human eye and even worse on a camera!

However I must say the car was in very good condition all round before starting, paintwork had a few minor marks in it just through every day use, owner asked me to take a look at the headlights (which for the age are in great condition) and also the gloss black spoiler on the back which is showing numerous swirls.

Few before shots (owners permission given to leave plates visible):

Minor marks on the usual door sills which stand out on white:

Exhausts very well used:

This picture took about 30 attempts to show swirls in the sunlight, in the right light at the right angle you can pick them up, also makes working with them very difficult:

Example of marks in the paint, was not many:

The gloss black rear spoiler:

And a final of the car before starting:

As usual start with the wheels and lower section of the car, sprayed in a non acidic cleaner and then worked in to release as much ingrained dirt as possible:

Just for the people who like the bleeding wheels shot using an metal decontamination:

This time worked in with a sponge to get the most off the surface:

Sticking with the lower section of the car those exhausts which clearly have a smoking addiction, again sprayed with a cleaning solution and worked in:

Even after just the above a big improvement:

Door sills and entry points showing lots of minor graze marks and rubber from shoes, decided to clay bar these areas to try remove as much of the on surface marks as possible:

The white does show general dirt build up in small areas, like between windows and around door trims, tried to get as much out as possible using car specific swabs:

Headlights before as mentioned in very good condition:

and the spoiler showing those swirls, the gloss black trims on new cars does look good but are terrible for marks:

Few of the after shots, spoiler, paint and headlights up close:

Exhausts:

Car overall finished off with a mid range sealant which should give a few months protection heading into summer:

Thanks for looking.

Looks great!

We got yet more flyers (Ranches) about not allowed to wash cars in the community. Does make it difficult :-(

Your posts got me round to doing the headlights on the wifes car. I bought a 3M kit off Amazon that you use in a drill (non hammer setting........). It only took me ~45 minutes from start to finish and although I could do with redoing the edges (nothing major I just focussed more on the centre of the lights), the wife was mightily impressed.

The brownie points gained will be used to get the green pass to attend the last round of the Bahrain Superbike Championship........
