Hi guys,

Anyone had any experience of importing and subsequent registration of something like an AC Cobra rep to Dubai?

Obviously it'll be a LHD, pre-built car (the one I'm looking at at the mo is a factory build)
Import tax on a classic is 3%, but I'm assuming this will be the standard 5% unless proof of age is possible.

Also, how will the RTA be on a car like this? obviously its a bit of a minefield as it isn't a production car as such. It seems like there are more than a handful on the roads out here though. Is it a case of 'who you know' ?

Most here are factory five replicas (there are normally a couple for sale locally already registered), a few guys on the gulf-petrol heads form have them so you might get a better response there.

Yea seen the local ones for sale.

My thoughts being you can get a lot more for your money in the US, coupled with the fact I could combine with a road trip/shake down there for a week or two, drop off at the port then ship here. It's a nice idea, but logistically it might be a bit limiting.
I've got the bonus of having family in the states so title change and insurance for driving in the US shouldn't be an issue.

The question I'm left with is the registration process here really. Might be worth speaking directly with some of the 'regular' importers and finding out how difficult it really is.

If factory five cobras exist on the RTA database then no issue to import one. finding out if they are registered is the issue.

Check the local ones for sale ans see what they are registered as
