Wife and I have decided that we would like to move out to the middle east for a few years, ideally Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Its something we have both been wanting to do for a number of years and have now decided it’s the right time, our son is 1, so if we don’t do it now we probably never will.

I have been job hunting, currently work in sales for a large IT company and have spoken to HR about a potential move to the ME offices, but not having any luck as no open positions at the moment in either Dubai or AD, however do have open positions in Saudi, which the wife’s not keen on.

So was wondering if anyone had any tips, any decent job sites to try, or any recruitment consultants on here. I have signed up to monster, and also been applying on individual company websites that I would like to work for, over the past fortnight, but having no luck yet. Understand part of it may be due to Eid.

Any tips on what else to try?

Linkedin.

Do you know anyone in the ME office? Who do you work for now?

Getting a job (other than being approached for one) out here is tough when you are not in the country, so if you have any relationships with people in the office here then leverage them, Dubai is still just a big village, someone local who can get your foot in the door will be a big help.

Pretty st time to be job seeking here though to be honest.

I have been speaking directly to the HR team based in Dubai, they are the ones that told me about the role in Saudi.

I have had a look on linkedin and have been applying for jobs which i think are a fit, but no one seems to be getting back to me, opposite of the UK where i tend to get recruitment agents calling even when I've not applied for anything.

They'll be a huge number of qualified applicants to any job posted here and a ln even larger number of nonqualified ones for a recruitment function to wade through, you need to be creative to get noticed amongst the crowd here, tough to pitch up at their office when you are not here, locally based candidates will be doing that.

What kind of thing are you applying for, links would be useful.

Also local market knowledge, especially in Sales a huge leg up, we look for people from withing the same city first, then country, after that GCC, it's just much easier than taking a punt on someone further afield, unless they are a truly standout candidate or it's a really niche role.
