I do not believe that it is a requirement - we have many support staff who I cannot see having degrees. There is however a massive local cultural belief that degree holder = good employee. I prove this wrong most days.
As Chilli says - a good localy based contact is your best bet.
p.s thinking of planning a road trip to Doha, I hear the drive over the mountains in Oman is awesome....

Sorry! Bit late picking up on this!! Got my parents over this week so not been on here for a bit, as it is I’m at work right now!
I’ve been in Bahrain for nearly 6 months now and love it here! Can’t be of much help on the job side as I work for a boat builder here but I don’t have a degree either so I don’t think that’s a issue (depending on the job I suppose!). No probs with places to go to eat and drink etc or buying your own beer once you find the shops, no special license needed here. Traffic and driving standards are as bad as anywhere in the Middle East, the main roads here are excellent though when not backed up with traffic. Very easy to get around as it’s a small island with everything being bunched at the top of Bahrain. I live in Jaffair and work in Sitra so 45-60+ mins of traffic to and from work every day but you get used to it. If you get work near where you live your laughing!
I find it very "safe" here especially in Jaffair as its full of yanks due to the massive US Navy base here, there are some real nice places to live, Seef is mainly new apartments, new parts of Manama, Amwaj islands mainly full of expats although I think there is only 1 bar there and its a bit out in the sticks (reclaimed land build).
The downsides is cost of living is high until you settle in enough to find the cheaper places to shop but even then its only bits and bobs and food stuffs, decent clothes in the big malls here I find are like for like, so a top for 35 quid back home will be 35 Dinar here making it very expensive for example. And the influx of weekend warriors from KSA, Q8, and Qatar coming here for only two things and acting like they own the place can get on your nerves but is easily avoided!
Oh and my major gripe is no nice or decent places to enjoy a beer outside!!!! Dubai has lots, Baristi and the broad walk at Dubai creek spring to mind, if Bahrain just had these two I would be as happy as a pig in shizz!
If you have anymore questions or anything PM me or put it up on here!

Bahrain is better than Dubai, but its still in the middle east! This means a lack of common sense, a lack of hills and a lack of vegetation (and rhd cars).
Having said that, you can maintain a significantly higher standard of living in terms of material things here than I could in London, and than I did in Dubai, so it's not all bad!

The degree thing is not a problem. I don't have a degree and all it meant was that the title on my visa states "officer in charge" rather than my real title.
They wouldn't take any of my other qualifications so had to provide my 'O' level certificates from when I left school twenty years ago. This was for UAE.

I've been a Vice President of a company here but had admin assistant on my Visa due to the lack of formal qualifcations. Last place I was a Director and had Manager on the visa for the same reasons. I couldn't careless tbh, as long as I get paid etc...They wouldn't take any of my other qualifications so had to provide my 'O' level certificates from when I left school twenty years ago. Thankingyouhowareyoufine - makes me laugh every time I hear it, bless em.
I had to provide all my typing/GCSE certificates from 15 years ago for this job here in Tripoli.
I have done a scoot round a few jobsites but its hard to tell which are good and which aren't.
I am not going for management level or anything techie - just EA/PA work but they are asking for degrees..this is the bit that is worrying me.
Then again, I got into Libya with no trouble so maybe I am worrying over nothing.
So anyone got any contacts or good job sites..?

Huh? Doha is in Qatar - Oman is well, Oman - two countries that are divided by a stretch of Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Where you thinking of road tripping? The roads across the mountains in Oman are indeed, awesome.
