Dunk,
I thought Bahrain was completely dry? Are there many expats (Euro's) there?
Anyways, I popped back in for supplies on Monday, and the guy said that my card had reached it's limit, but no worries, "We'll just use mine"!
I asked if it was a problem, and he said "Oh no sir, no problem at all"
So that was nice!

Bahrain dry!!?? It’s as wet as the sea around it!! Correct me if I’m wrong older expats but I believe Bahrain has probably had booze longer than most in the GCC?
One thing I would say and its probably due to the size of the island but we do lack (correction) have anywhere good to drink outside which sucks, unless your a member of one of the private clubs (anywhere from 200BD - 500BD a year!) but there’s loads of bars and clubs, Irish theme being the norm, JJ's, Fiddlers, Champs and then the other end of the scale, Traders, Bushedo (sp?) etc and also the lower end of the scale, think rattlesnake, cyclone..... full of love you long times....!
There is a healthy mix of Euros, Yanks and Aussies here plus the rest due to the oil and finance side here, loads of Yanks due to the massive NSA (Navy) base and no thanks to the causeway loads of visitors from the rest of the GCC where you cant buy beer (legally)!
Picked up a case of Coors light last night, 24 330ml cans for 14BD (1400 dirhams?) When i first got here i could get a case of 330ml Fosters for 9BD!

The place is wetter than an otter's pocket!
Where else could Saudis drive to to get plastered at the weekend?
Saudis, Q8ies, Qataris (?) even UAE locals! There was a point in time so I believe that you would see more KSA number plates here than BRN ones! And from where I live in Juffair that’s certainly the case on the weekends! Also waking up after a night out with a pocket full of Saudi cash is the norm too!The place is wetter than an otter's pocket!

Aye, American alley on a thurs/friday/sat night can almost be mistaken for any high street back home! Apart from the riot police and pisssssed up slappers! Always nice when our Royal Navy is in town and throws the ASBO's ashore!
I digress! Starting to paint a bad picture!!

Out of interest how does that compaire to booze in the beer shops in Dubai? (not counting the little speak easy shop in Baracuda!)
Pretty comparable if memory serves, but then i have only used 'official' outlets once in the last 3 years, that was in an emergency! Its fairly obvious i dont work for a bank over here!!

It's like shopping in the states though, make your pick then take it to the counter, only then does 30% tax get whacked on the price, effing annoying!
