Confirmation last night that the parents are coming for a visit. Now, not a bad thing I hear you say, and I agree....I enjoy their company.
However, the old man likes a beer. In fact he rather likes 2, adores 3, and craves 4. I think you can see where this is going. On a trip to Dublin once, he sank 18 pints of Guinness, and we didn;t get to the pub till around 18:00.
So, A&E will simply cost too much to keep him entertained. So, Barra whatistname, or some other dodgy outlet is required. However, being a totally legit and wholesome individual, I'm not wise in these situations.
Any ideas? I'll need crates upon crates of Guinness & red wine.

Barracuda is your friend. I spunked almost 3k there on Friday and am now set for the summer.
Getting there is really easy - I've got your e-mail from the horse riding thing somewhere so I'll send over some directions or a map.
Should take about 30/45 mins from your end of town, but you'll need to avoid the Sharjah border exodus in the mornings and evenings unless you go the long way around on the 611.
I always enjoy the outing - there's few things as enjoyable as unloading a proper bounty of booze into the house on your return!

(I'm sure you'll be fine - the wife's car looked like a Calais Booze Cruise special on the way back and I got no attention. One of the chaps suggested using the 611 instead of the 311 and that sounds like a good idea)

Directions:
Pick up the Emirates Road in Dubai and stay on the Emirates road through Sharjah (or arrive on it in Ajman heading north towards RAK from the 611 as others have suggested)and you will eventually see a brown 'tourist' sign which tells you the Dreamland Aqua Park, the Emirates Motorsport Complex and the Aeroclub is 20kms or so. As you drive along you will see a distinct modern white James Bond style villa being constructed on a dune to your left - this is your cue to exit. You will also see a sign (another brown tourist sign) telling you to come off at the next junction for each of these attractions.
Turn left at the roundabout and head underneath Emirates Road - on the other side take the first exit which is essentially straigt on. Go straight across at the next 3-4 roundabouts which take you through a desert area (watch out for camels and goats!) until you come to a final roundabout at the main coast road with a large metal structure/statue in the middle of it.
Turn right at this roundabout and the Barracuda is about 5km along this road on the left; pass the motorsport complex on your right and be ready to turn left just past the big aircraft. If you arrive at Dreamland aqua park you've gone too far...but I'm told it's worth a visit!
Once you've turned left at the plane just follow the brick paved drive right to the end and fill your boots!

I make the trip up to Barracuda about once a month. I've never had any kind of trouble on the way back through SHJ.People have told me plenty of stories (urban myths) about confiscations/extortion but I have never had any reliable reports of such.

there is also a little hole in the wall place on the way to hatta/oman border - worth stocking up having had a hoon on some of the roads down that way
edited to add - this obviously avoids going through sharjah (but range not as extensive as barracuda/al hamra cellar) - not that I've ever had any problems with that
