Just fking brilliant.

Yet again, they've changed the channels to watch the Premier League in the Middle East. 4th year in a row it's been with a different bloody provider. Now I don't have it on my set up which cost a damn fortune and have to have yet another subscription fee if I want to watch them.

Yours,

fked off of Dubai.

I'm told Slingbox is the solution (if you have a family member in the UK who can subscribe a second Skybox for you, and your broadband speed here is high enough.)

Not that I've tried it, but a tech-savvy friend of mine is able to get Premier League, Champions League, F1, the Ashes, and Motors TV, all for a fraction of local prices. Plus you can catch back episodes of Fawlty Towers, Red Dwarf and Blackadder on Dave!

You can stream HD from Abu Dhabi Sports which is fine, and its not that expensive - so, I thought I'd go down that route - fill in the tables, get an account, go to pay for it...

Doesn't work - site has a fit and can't find the payment page.

Why am I surprised....

Ho hum - yet another disappointment. Is it such a big ask for stuff to work as intended?

Can't even give these chumps my money.

So, I then manage to get the payment thing up after nearly an hour. Do the deed, get all the confirmation emails etc...

Go to watch and I'm nicely told that I haven't got a subscription. I click on the help page, which redirects me back to 'my account' page which tells me that I have a full subsription.

Then I spend 30 mins calling the help line to be told that it will be fixed in 5 mins as they have technical issues. They've had over a year to get this right and they've failed miserably - maybe they should have got some westeners to do it for them instead of the owners cousin.

Don't suppose I'll be able to get a refund either.

I have to admit to getting close to the end of the line with this place.

Maybe I was just naive in thinking that it was going to change to become more organised, professional and in step with the developed world that it so desperately seems to want to be. I was taken in by the promises and ambitions and it only seems to be empty lies and dumb arrogance and nothing has changed in 7 years - in fact, it has become worse.

I guess people can't change that quickly unless they want to and I guess the locals don't want things to change as it threatens them and their wealth. And to be fair, why should they give a fk. I just wish they'd stop pretending.

Guess it is time to put an exit strategy in place.

Perhaps just a long holiday might be in order.

I always find a trip back to the UK makes me realise that the Middle East isnt actually that bad a place to live.

I can only compare with the UK, and Nigeria, as they're the only places i've spent any decent length of time living. At least this place is improving slowly whereas the UK is just going downhill continually. You think this place is dysfunctional, try living back in the UK now. No thanks, i'll hang on in here.

I chucked our TV subscription in after only 6 months with Du. Every month it would be down for min a week. No idea why and the dumb fks are Du had no idea as well. So, after the min 6 months, threw the decoder back at them and now we download all the TV/movies we want to watch. We had far, far better service with Eti-st-lat, and thats saying something.

Hi all,

I was looking into getting the premiership but it always seems to be such a hassle and yet another set top box.

Can anyone recommend any good reliable sites for downloading tv movies etc as there are just so many. I dont mind paying so long as its worth it and not just lots of pixelation.

Does anyone actually use sling box reliably and what sort of speeds would you require for it to be ok and not buffering and pausing all oiver the place :-)

Cheers
K
