brt900 said: I'l be down there in my Seat leon..and no doubt i'l end up leaving my entry until the last minute! It's the first time i've ever tried something like this so it should be a good bit of fun One of the things I love about this event is the great mix of cars that enter. Am I right in thinking that the course will likely be the same as last years?

I didn't go last year, but I have a feeling it was only 600m and this year's says 740m, so maybe not the same?

My first ever car was a black 1962 Austin Mini Minor with Cosmics, a red roof and Austin 1300 engine. Always fancied another someday.

Everyone loves a mini! That one above is my 9th, but the 8th was over 10 years ago! I know its a bit random and off topic, but I found this pic recently of me racing in 1988, aged 15. There is a story with this particular mini, no 2 in my 9, but back in '87 when I was GIVEN it, it was just an old MK1 with no floorpan a bit of rally history.... If was the car we think it was and I still had it, it would probobly pay off a sizeable chunk of my mortgage.... :-( We think it was one of the pre-cooper era BMC works 850 rallycars... DOH!

I wish I'd had the foresight to keep photos of my old cars. It's so easy nowadays. I am going to be using my car and the Crystal Palace event to try and get some donations to the Cornwall Air Ambulance. They saved my life back in December 04 and so I will have a couple of collection tins with me and their logo and web address on the car. I owe them my life after they saved me from this, in the pic below, and operated at the roadside to stem the loss of blood. I spent the following year in hospital and sprinting an old BMW was always a goal for my recovery. In fact, my first ever event was Crystal Palace last year. It may sound a bit corny but it really was a dream come true and I was just so chuffed when I queued up for that first green light. I am extremely grateful for all that was done to save my life and for being able to learn to walk and drive again. So if I can raise a few quid it will be going to a worthy cause.

That's a right state! Glad you're still with us, air ambulance/RNLI always worthy causes IMO, good work

Luckily I don't remember the accident itself. My ex was even luckier than I. Just before it happened she undid her belt to reach forward, into the footwell, to get her hand-bag. Given the fact that the car struck the post on her side, it's unlikely she'd have survived. She went on to make a full recovery. I have a permanent disability but it doesn't stop me from having a go at most things. Well I try not to let it anyway. It's a sad fact that so many of our rescue services survive on charitable donations alone.

Entered both days, love it! Although the entry fees higher than normal sprints theres something special about doing this one, I was there in 98/99 and have been back the last 2 years, its a challenge to try and make a road legal car quick round here and still drive it home but I do try!

Been to watch a couple of times. Very pleasant if the weather is kind. My brother in law has entered his V-twin single seater special on the Saturday. I hope it behaves!

entry list (provisional) http://www.motorsportatthepalace.co.uk/competitors...lots of research needed - same as every other year, my catchphrase for May seems to be "what on earth is a..." Expect the FTD battle to include Fyrth Crosse's Ensign, Field/Hewat in the Stohr & one of the Dax (I'm sure some of the new cars might join in as well + if it rains *which it wont* then all bets are off)

Yes as much as I love the wet, and it would give me a real chance in my class, the tracks a bit narrow in places and going by how slippery it was when the event returned in 2010 after just a light shower hours before the event started.......but it would really even up the field......
