Unfortunately the Muncie M22 close ratio 4 speed I run in the Camaros has the longest 1st gear ever fitted in a four speed production gearbox, think Manx Norton or BSA Rocket Gold star if you are into bikes, it will do 80mph in first gear with a 3.5 rear ratio and means you have to take the hill at least 20 or 30 mph with an engine that bogs under 3000rpm unless you slip the clutch and that will incure a trip to the clerk and maybe a fine, just totally unsuitable sorry, it has to be changed to be usable.
Yeah, lets change the whole track and level off the Wolds because your car has a long first gear... rolleyes

Love Cadwell, agree it's the 'best' or most challenging circuit I've raced in the UK.

To the poster who can't get up the mountain, whatever you do do not go to Angouleme then (a street circuit in France).
3 consecutive 180 hairpins with climbs not too dissimilar to the mountain.

If we had the mountain grandstand replaced maybe they could bring the paddock road in straight from where it enters know and instead of turning right then left, carry on and gradually turn up the access road near the toilets?

As for the cars that cant hack the exit road, try asking race control during your breifing if you and anybody else affected if you can exit the circuit at chris 2/gooseneck exit and use the paddock road.

From an initial consultaion taken last year...
Anymore information on this consultation as this is the first I heard about it?

............

Al, if you do come back to Cadwell (and I know it's a big if) in addition to what norfolkscooby say's, there is also a track exit at the Hairpin.
I'm surprised that the CoC didn't mention these options.

............

One other thing that's not been mentioned, as far as I know Cadwell doesn't have any problems with noise.

Don't demolish the old house. I have fond memories of doing a track walk at midnight with my missus a few years back the day before my race weekend. I dared her to go up to the door and knock on it. She grabbed my arm for support and we continued on our (slightly tipsy) walk...

Good memories.

I think it would make a nice place for a New Town to start from.

Hi Guys,

Cadwell is a great circuit,we all know the pits/paddock need upgrading buts it what makes Cadwell so appealing, and as for walking down to the the start & finish then back up that is a ball ache!!
Best circuit in the UK I think not, just go to the Anglesey circuit, a fanatastic circuit, both the coastal & International are surperb, now with the new garage facilties surely the best in the UK by far.

Sorry bud, i love anglefreeze, but the circuit, in either form, is not as challenging as Cadwell!

I've only just heard of the planned improvements from a colleague and found this:

It doesn't really provide any more info though.

I absolutely love Cadwell Park. By far the best circuit in the country if you love driving.

I raced there a lot in 88-95, but then a lot of championships stopped going there, preferring the sterile status of Silverstone and Rockingham etc.

I kept going back, entering cars into whatever libre race I could do just to get my fix.

MSV have done a great job updating the paddock, and I'm sure they'll understand the appeal of Cadwell in any redevelopment.

The further north you go in the UK, the better the circuits.Maybe there should be more Northern Championships. Don't know why, but Cadwell, Oulton, Croft, Knockhill and Anglesey give me more of a thrill than Silverstone, Snetterton or Rockingham ever could.

Had similar ratios in the Jerico as used in the ASCAR, and that was fine going up there. However, here's a tip - "break down" on our slowing down lap...... they'll tow you in....

Think money here people, particularly as we're in the CLUB Motorsport forum.

If JP puts five million quid into it, he will damned sure want five million back out of it.
It will be upgraded to attract the bigger formulae that pay the bigger money and what was once the best club circuit in the country will be the beyond the reach and budgets of us mere clubbies.

If you want an example of what I mean, use Snetterton 300 as an example. Now one of the most expensive circuits in the country.

If it gets "upgraded" then many of us will never race there again. JUST SAY NO!

Have to agree with what's been said, I love Cadwell and although I'd love to drive it as part of a big package (like GT's or even TOCA) I think it's best enjoyed as a club circuit.

At best it would end up being like Oulton, loved it when I was in Caterham Graduates but it's a pain to get to on a big weekend, has no runoff where you want it and is still too narrow for quick stuff.

@DRkart, comment not worthy a reply.

@thunderbelmont, yes I have done that 'breakdown' trick.

@Skeggysteve, no I have never been told of this other exit or even knew of existance, would have saved me a lot of past problems if some one had bothered to.

Problem is with exiting at the hairpin (or anywhere else on the circuit) as well as the regular point, is that Race Control like to know where everyone is. It can be more easily controlled by using one “designated” point only. (plus it "overlaps" the the Circuit entry point from the paddock and also affects the pedestrian access across the Circuit to the pit lane)

I'm told the Palmer Fencing Team has already been in action at Charlies, so the destruction has already started.

It won't end there. Sadly

yes I agree about the exit ramp, a hill start here could ruin any fancy paddle clutch

I just hope he doesnt change track to much,I love Cadwell best drivers circuit in the uk, if it were left to me, Id buy the field off the farmer next to start finsh straight & put new pits here & use the old ones for over-spill for the larger weelends they trying to attract & I would only widen park straight & chis curve,I think widening any other parts of the track would ruin the experience
Park straight need widened as any cleverly placed car driving down the middle of it prevent any overtakeing unless your willing to take a massive risk & or trade paint as high lighted here by pal Joss last year in his sunbeam following a very crafty & wise Gary Whittaker
