Breaking my own rules slightly here but just got given this one from the archives:
1992 Scottish Kart Championships, Cadet Class, from West of Scotland Kart Club's Summerlee Raceway.
I started 4th on the grid (#61) and spun out going for the lead on lap one (not shown in the video). Saw my dads face going in to the last corner immediately afterwards and then got my head down for the remaining 14 laps so as to hopefully avoid certain death when I got back in the pits! Favourite move being the 2 kart pass up the inside in to the last corner
Some noteable names out there, Oly Mortimer of Porsche Carrera Cup in #70 and current FIA World LMP2 Endurance Champion Ryan Dalziel in #28 pulling off an epic last corner pass for the win!

Here is my onboard from the 2012 Formula Ford Festival. It was my first ever festival and in a newly rebuilt car which was new to us and the team. Learning the set-up all the time, so we were further down than we expected for the start, but with a different set of spring's we were a lot closer to the pace finishing second and just missed fastest lap by 1/100th of a second.

Its that time of year again, season 2013 is goooooooo!

Starting 5th on the grid, good start following Kenny Thirlwall and Ryan Borthwick in to the first corner. Some panel bashing between them saw Ryan spin out and I had a lucky miss to move in to 4th. Not going to lie, I held my breath, clenched my butt and hit the loud pedal on that one!
Challenged Kenny for the next lap or so but the race turned rather processional after that so cut the clip short.

Race 2, started off 4th and out dragged Kenny Thirlwall down to the first corner. Gave some room on the apex since it wasn’t quite job done then got punted in to the gravel before Leslies. Dragged the car out the gravel and started the fight back from 22nd place. Ended up finishing 9th, just, after a fiesty last corner with Elaine Marshall and Marco Haig.
I hold my hands up and admit I was hauled up by the officials after the race. I passed under yellow flags on lap 3 and deserved my punishment. Red mist is no excuse for endangering the marshals and other drivers.

Race 3, 9th on the grid, up to 7th by the time we got in to MacIntyres. Slotted past Josh Baird in to 6th at the hairpin on lap one and then had to fight him off for a few laps. The final few laps were spent chasing down Vic Covey Junior and then hooking on to the battle for 3rd between Joe Tanner and Kyle Reid. Heading along railway straight for the final time, Vic needed a little bump start to get him going then we had a drag race up to the finish line. Finished 6th, with 3rd to 6th being covered by just 0.18 seconds!
Better results than the first round last year, but at the same time, not as good as I was looking for. Still, I learned from it and theres a few instances especially in race 3 I made the wrong call and could have finished higher with some smarter moves. Then again, I might just have increased my bodywork repair bill exponentially and finished in the same place!

I'd forgotten about this thread. 2013 is very much go. Three events in, but I didn't compete at the first because of the snow. I did start at Castle Combe in the snow, but it was slippery. A class win was my reward for trying slicks in the afternoon. Clay Pigeon was dry and sunny but still very cold. A spin in the morning and a sticky throttle in the afternoon didn't help matters, but I dipped under the class record. Sadly, I didn't knock enough off the class record and ended up 2nd in class. Despite that, I'm leading the ASWMC Sprint Championship at the moment.
The Caterham graduates second round of the season was held at Silverstone(GP). The classes were mixed(40 and 50 cars) and so was the start which was unusual for us. The car I drive is a Mega spec, the grid was mixed with sigmas which are similar in power but using a sigma unit and Sigmas run a ltd slip diff. I had a good race but did make 2 telling mistakes, didnt get 2nd clear enough off the start and spinning, I dont use the tow enough either!
We was lucky with the weather, windy but sun shone when it needed too.
The second song was just a bit of fun as Im a fan of Derek! Im also getting a bit better with Imovie!!

ASWMC Sprint Championship Round 3: Llandow Sprint
Yesterday was a bit of a 'mare. Spin, broken chain tensioner, broken floor, broken body, but stole a class win and now leading the championship by over a point, so all worked out OK. The longer edit is on my blog.

Short clip of me binning my Boxster at Copse in free practice on Friday. Was chasing fellow Toyo Tires BRSCC racer woof and it looks like we both hit something going through turn 1. He does a quick correction but I get into a massive slide then find gravel. More annoying since I'd just had some respraying done and wheels powder coated!

I improved my lap record by 1.11 seconds but sadly couldn't match that pace in either race.

Race 1:

Very mediocre start with the car bogging down after I let out the throttle to stop it creeping on the line. Trying too hard after fluffing the start, I ran wide twice and got the warning flag for circuit limits on lap 3. Race was a bogey after that as I had to wind it in to avoid risking a penalty. Micky Doyle passed me later in the race with Aiden Moffat diving through after him. Managed to retake Aiden to finish 6th.
Race 2:

Better start to this race off 6th on the grid. Had the pace in patches during the race but couldnt catch on to the lead group or drop the guys behind in no small part due to countless little errors. Was also a safe distance from the guys in front as they *ahem* traded paint samples.
Race 3:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XRuCAZJEq-4
Lost out off the lights to Shane Stoney. Yet more silly mistakes drop me back to 4th but fought back to 3rd passing Kenny Thirlwall out the hairpin.

Here, have a bit of brutal Belmont in the CSCC Special Saloons at Brands Hatch 4/5th May.
Had brake issues (4 pumps for Druids, 2 for GHB, 2-3 for Surtees etc.. 4 for Paddock!).
Ended in a DNF due to exhaust header issues.

Should be better for next event - Cadwell Park 29/30th June.

I#ll take any excuse to show off vids! Don't know if this qualifies as it's the German/Austrian Porsche Club Championship but heres my effort for pole in round one of the series - well chuffed as 95% of the field were 3,8l cars (mine is a 3,6l):

Two days at Crystal Palace for Motorsport at the Palace. Binned it at the hairpin on Sunday, but managed to fix the car for Monday and took about a second off the class record. An awesome weekend!

Footage from onboard my Formula Vee at Brands Hatch - only a few laps due to a red flag, then my throttle cable snapped. Struggling with bravery on the way into/ out of Paddock and also through Surtees - the front runners can take it flat I believe, any time I try it I go off!

Nice clips Without wanting to go too off topic there seems like two things that you could really improve upon (other than finding a better throttle cable ). I race karts rather than the FVee that you're driving here, but I hope this post helps anyway. The first thing I noticed in the video was the car running quite wide at Clark, as well as a few other corners, as you fight the steering wheel and are on and off the throttle. From the video it 'sounds' like you are turning into Paddock with no throttle at all, making the rear feel quite light, and taking away your confidence in the car. Being smoother getting on the throttle, and getting on it at the right time will definitely help, as all the blipping that happens as you fight to get on the power just unsettles the car.
The other thing that springs to mind is commitment in overtaking. In Race 2 you are clearly much faster than the cars that you are chasing in the first few laps, as you catch them very quickly. Having caught up however, you then proceed to brake earlier than you would with a clear track, allowing the other driver to come back at you. Braking as hard and as late as you would normally, if not more so because you are trying to overtake, would allow you to move in front decisively, and is actually safer because you avoid battling side by side with the other car on the exit.
Obviously it's easy for me to sit here and say that, but it's just my opinion. Good luck in your next race,
Sam
