good advice as usual Alan, things are shaping up for me really, looks like I will be getting my hands on the VD99 in January. And I hope I can blow the cob webs off it at Alford before we get racing at KH.

Is there anybody known in Scotland that does work on the FF engines ?

ONE marshalling signature may be used for an upgrade.

This might be useful:

The bead seats are jolly lovely, but expensive and a bit fiddly IMO.

I would suggest you get a couple of reasonably competent people to help you; do everything you can to protect your car from the goo; do it in small stages; don't use to much goo; and be prepared to bond yourself and everything around you to your car. smile

Also - I don't know if it mentions it in the video, and it may be obvious - but you'll need to do it in clothing that approximates to your race suit (unless you want solidified goo on your race suit). Another thing that occurs to me is that - on the basis that you're lying down in your car (like mine) - you might want to do it wearing an old crash helmet, so you can get the relationship between the position and angle of the backrest in comparison to your headrest just right.

Finally, it get's quite hot so be prepared for an initial sensation like you've just p*ssed your pants followed by a jolly hot bottom! smile

cheers Count, that put me off the idea. Bought one of these bad boys : http://www.medinasport.co.uk/MSSpares/index.php?ro...

For 35 quid should save me some hassle.

anybody got any experience with loading a FF in a lwb transit ? I'm possibly looking to get a 330/350 LWB Transit rather than using a trailer. But the Load Width Max is 1782mm while my RF99 is slightly over 1800 with its race tyres. Is the solution flat wood wheels ? Also how would it be for loading ? Very long ramps ?

seen the sprint lads put cars a lot bigger than a van diemen in a transit, long ramps, wheels made out of 18mm ply see http://www.diy.com/nav/build/timber/sheet-material... better cut yourself a spare or 2 in case you get a puncture loading or unloading it pmsl. one thing dont try and cut it yourself with a jigsaw, get a proper joiner to cut them then using a holesaw cut a big hole for the centre and drill for the wheel studs, again get a joiner to drill them using a pillar drill. paint them using el cheapo undercoat and gloss paying attention to the edges

When my Dad's Alexis wouldn't fit on the trailer, he went to the scrap yeard and bought four space savers- problem solved. The benefit is they're stronger than MDF, they're easier to strap down and the car can be safely driven on them.

Fiat 14" Space savers will fit on Van Diemen hubs and will narrow the track considerably. We use them on our VD RF01 car.

Just been thinking, has anybody ever made one of these FF cars into a road car. This might sound silly but now Ford are doing one and with the BAC Mono being so expensive. It woud sound like fun at a fraction of the cost

That's great news, Mr Cippo. Good luck.

Just one thing. Metric on a Van Diemen? Is that for sure?
