That's great news, Mr Cippo. Good luck.

Just one thing. Metric on a Van Diemen? Is that for sure?
Post 98 Van Diemens have a few metric bolts, the bolts holding the camber adjusting shims on the radial caliper uprights are metric, the cv joints are metric and the bell housing to chassis are metric, also if it is one of the earlier non modded chassis that has the removable rear sub frame I'm pretty sure those bolts are also metric.

good stuff Barry, anti roll bars are also imperial.

Race report yeh, qualified 10th, finished 10th in race 1 and finished 7th in race 2. Qualy was wet, race 1 was dry-ish and race 2 was dry. Had a great wee battle with Neil B for 6th in the 2nd race that I lost as i messed up my gears out the hairpin. Early days, happy to of brought the car home judging by the conditions ( and my lack of experience ). Onwards and upwards, really looking forward to the next race weekend. As usual, need to thanks the marshals, fans and everybody else involved for coming and supporting us.

Thats my first season of FF1600 finished, chassis is now stripped and ready for some winter rebuild.

For those looking to get into FF, costs of 20k per season are not an exaggeration, specially when you blow an engine and have a shunt where you do a corner.

Finished 9th in the Scottish Championship btw, so will take that for a first season of motorsport.

In your opinion is that a winning budget?

I want to do Formula Fords one day, I'd be coming up from Caterhams where you can comfortably run a competetive season for half that amount though...

20k a winning budget ? It depends if you include buying the car or not. From personal experience tho with FF1600, I wouldn't call any amount a winning budget, some people just win with crap cars while others through money away for the latest Ray and they are still mid pack...

Guys,

If you're looking for cheaper single seater racing, you need to look at Formula Vee. The performance is not dissimilar to a Formula Ford, but the cars are cheaper to buy, run (and crash!). Typical budget for the year is £5k, but you can do cheaper (or spend more as you wish).

I would say you can compete if FF1600 for much less than £20k after all, race entry and car parts are not too expensive. I would estimate that a Caterham season would be slightly more expensive.

I am currently looking for a Caterham and if you are interested, would consider a Part ex for my FF1600!!
