"Modern Classics" 40 minute race series
Discussion
I really enjoyed it. Had a great start taking about 4 cars off the line and then had a great battle with a BMW 320, an Alfa GTV, a Toyota MR2, a Jag XJ40 and a Porsche 944. We were a bit unlucky to be caught doing our pit stop when the safety car came out but delighted to finish 21st out of 25 finishers (31starters), making up 6 places from our start position. Great fun. You don't need a BMW M3 or a Boxster to have a great time and our humble and cheap 924S was well suited to Brands Indy.

I can tell you that they only let you get them off the line cos you are Series Co-ordinator ! Truthfully though it was a great weekend of racing from the CSCC. We went along on Sat to have a look before our race on Sunday and every race was interesting. Pit Stops, Penalties, Spin Offs, you name it, each race had it. Almost no car to car contact, any damage was down to self infliction. Brands Indy is a great circuit and Paddock Hill Bend for me still needs bigger cojones than even when I first did it 24 years ago in the PCGB Challenge. I'm glad to see another PCGB driver that day 1st April 1990 Stuart Jeffcoate is still racing against me 24 yrs later.Woof, we missed ya ! Those last lap do or die efforts that entertain not only the spectators but me. And a well driver win by Mr.Smith in the BMW again, if only my clutch had not given up/

I meant to ask, David, what caused the retirement, I see you put above it was the clutch. Good fun scrap we had over the opening 10 laps though. If you could leave an extra couple of inches next time so I don't need to incur the wrath of Mr. Palmer by using 2 wheels on the grass to get by that'd be most appreciated. Thankfully they don't seem to have observers looking on the run upto Druids.
Hiya chaps,
We're all registered and have just mailed our entry for the 'Combe meeting. My wife Karen and I will be driving the #15 black Impreza WRX in class C (4WD turbo nutters).
I doubt we'll be troubling too many people as the car is running under a 300bhp cap for another series and short gearing means it tops out about 135mph. (Hitting the limiter in 5th between Folly and Avon Rise).
Looking forward to a series that prides itself on being non-contact and being involved in a grid with some fantastic machinery. Icing on the cake being involved in CSCC meetings and all the fantastic historic cars in the other races in the paddock.
Any hints & tips for driver swaps would be greatly appreciated. We're a bit nervy about killing the ignition and frying the turbo, but them's the rules. Anything we can do to mitigate that would be great.
Cheers,
Rich.

Same here Adam, I spent an afternoon there last year with Ben Demetriou. Max speed was 121 mph on the GPS data logger (Aim Solo), Ben was slightly slower there as he uses the classic line which requires a bit earlier braking but was giving him much more exit speed out of the following right hander and hence much faster lap time. He managed to get round in 1:17.9 a few years back in class 2 of Porsche Club (944 S2). 135 mph is really really fast there.

Unfortunately, it's a heavy ol' beast and takes a bit of slowing down so we lose out to many other cars under braking and cornering speed. Looking forward to seeing how it pans out though.Gassing Station | UK Club Motorsport | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
