"Modern Classics" 40 minute race series
Discussion
I am keen to enter the Modern Classics race at Castle Combe on the 12th July in Class D. If anyone fancies joining me as a 2 car 2 driver team let me know. I have an MR2 n/a.
I have spoken to Andy and his fellow organisers and they have confirmed that as long as the car is in the same class it doesn't have to be an MR2 to run as a shared team.
Slim chance I know, but i thought it was worth a try

Had our first race with the CSCC in the Modern Classics on Saturday 12th July. Can't thank everyone enough for the warm welcome, whether from officials or fellow drivers/crew. The stunning weather helped make it one of our best ever race weekends.
Our Impreza performed well, and I don't think we disgraced ourselves. Looks like we captured the Modern Classics Class C (4WD turbo) lap record at 'Combe. That's despite some gearbox gremlins and it was my first time out in Karen's car since it's had a lot of work done.
We finished 8th overall, but might have been able to punt that up to 6th if we'd been better at our driver swap. Something to aim for. Otherwise, the pace of the BMWs and 911 (And Nev's Vectra!) was too much. We might have more luck at shorter, twistier circuits where our torque might help us.

A real shame about the engine demise of the MR2 Turbo, and the VW Golf incident which saw a slightly early end to the race. Hope everyone was ok and are back out soon.
Cheers,
Rich.

I've entered for Donny. Became a Grandad for the first time last month which meant I've missed last two rounds and Anglesea ( which is IMHO a great track ). Andy you should come clean and tell them you only live a stones throw from Donny !
David, it's no secret I live only a mile from DP, so am fortunate to be not too far from Mallory and Silverstone, too. And I still think that Anglesey is the best circuit in the country and well worth the trip!CSCC Club membership is £39 for 12 months. Series Registration is £99 for the season although you can have a "taster race" without having to register and we do offer a discount if people register after half way through the season.
Entry fees vary - Anglesey (£295, I think, this year) is cheaper than Donington or the MSV tracks for example, but generally an entry fee is about £365 for a 30 min practice and 40 min race.
Running costs obviously depend on the car! But my Porsche 924S is cheap to run and a set of tyres (List 1B Toyo 888s in my case) will last the season

Andy, do you have an invitiational class in MC? I'm currently in FC, but find it a frustrating series to be honest.
I'm currently running an E28 M5, but thinking of going back to an E36 M3 for next season. Wondered if it would be possible to join you guys for Oulton Park instead of doing FC?

We don't have an invitation class but MC is for cars UPTO the year 2000 so older cars than those just from the 1990s are eligible as long as they comply with the other (few) regs. It's why I race my 1986 Porscge 924 S in MC. The classes in MC are deliberately different to those in Future Classics to give people options if they have a car that may not be competitive in FC.I'm currently running an E28 M5, but thinking of going back to an E36 M3 for next season. I suggest you give the CSCC office a ring and ask them to transfer your series registration to MC.
Thanks Andy, will do.
For some reason I had it in my head that MC was for cars built in the 90s, but having read the regs yesterday (after posting, of course!) I see that's not true.
Not sure that I'm going to be able to make Donnington either way, but hopefully will join you guys for Oulton.

Why do you find the FC a frustrating series? Did you expect to turn up and win? The E28 with the M30 would be awfully underpowered against the 928 of Chilton and very heavy against the Lotus... Now that you have the M88 in there, you have a better chance. Btw, I raced in the MC for one race and I would say it was even more competitive than the FC - there are a number of E36 M3s, which would be GT Cup fast were they on slicks... I think the class structure would be better done on power-to-weight rather than engine size.
Anyway, as I said I suspect the E28 isn't the right car for either series, and having seen how competitive E36s seems to be in MC, I'll probably go back to an E36 M3 for next year. Shame I don't still have my old one!

Anglesey. Wow! What a circuit! So glad Andy talked us into it and looking forward to another visit.

Glad you enjoyed it!
21 cars entered so far for Donington. Still time to get entries in, although after COP tomorrow a late entry fee applies.
Remember there is also an additional 40 min race that you can enter on each of Saturday and Sunday too.

Looking forward to being lapped by the Porsche RSR!
Squizz, I'll be nice to you and try not to lap you ! The series is eceltic and the drivers talented and respectful. 5hit happens at times but it's not intentional. I've entered Donny and Oulton after a summer break enforced by family happenings and club events.
