"Modern Classics" 40 minute race series
Discussion
Last Modern Classics race of the season coming up at Snetterton on 18th October. We're booked in for a final fling this year. Carl's back out in the Audi TT so we have some class competition too, so looking forward to that.
Will be up against a Porsche 928GT. Can't wait to see/hear that in action. Always loved the 928!

Mark Chilton is absolutely evil if that is his 928 It is actually a GTS too... On a serious note, Mark is actually a really nice guy and he peddles the 928 very well. Easily top 3 finish, very strongly in with a chance for 1st too, especially at Snett where the track suits him. If it is Paul Anderson, he is also very fast in the HSCC 70s Roadsports, but the FC/MC has been somewhat more challenging for him. If it is Adrian Clark - his 928 is just short of 600bhp and if he sets it up ok, it just flies at Snetterton. I was meant to bring out my own 928GTS racer, but problems with the rear suspension have put an end to this plan. Instead, we will be taking our Doom Blue 944 Turdo Cup racer in both FC and MC. Race number 149. Hoping it stays together following a complete engine rebuilt, new ECU, new turdo, new tyres and a few other things. Will be up against a Porsche 928GT. Btw, how do you know that you will be racing against a 928? Still have not seen a list for either series myself...

If you book via the website, you can view the confirmed entries. Snetterton is certainly not going to suit us. If it was the 300 then that would be better, but the 200 will definitely suit the higher horsepower and longer geared cars. (ie. BMW/Porsche)

I thought you were going to have a crack at the AMOC intermarque this year Alex? We haven't had any 928's out this season. Btw, how do you know that you will be racing against a 928? Still have not seen a list for either series myself...

I was, raced the 928 at Brands in the MC as a shakedown ahead of the AMOC... Easily the fastest car in a straight line from the whole bunch, but no chance to put the power down at all. Traced that to a shoddily rebuilt GAZ rear shock, which could not control the spring. On top, the rose-jointed rear hub decided to destroy the CV joint, and the icing on the cake - the car was overheating, since our home-made aero was not as good as we thought Then I got sidetracked by a million and one things, and here we are, trying to get a 944 Turdo to work properly ahead of the last two races for the season...Still have not given up, but boy, it can be taxing. If the 944 works well, I think you will see it in the AMOC next year, but it is just one of these things, where a million little things pop up their ugly head the minute you try and eek a bit more oomph from an old car.

So...
Not a great run for the #15 Impreza of Senter/Phillips at Snetterton on October 18th.
I (Senter) managed to drift and semi spin enough in qualifying to get my first ever Driver Standards warning. I couldn't find any grip in the hairpin (Corner 2) and had constant trouble shifting from 5th to 4th which caught me out a couple of times.
In the race, I had a lot to do to catch our class opponent (Carl Owens Audi TT). I came out of the pits to find him not too far in front. I needed to pass him to have a chance. Unfortunately, I'd banked on conditions being much better for the race, but the hairpin was still an ice rink as far as our car was concerned. I had a big drift which I thought I'd caught but it then spat me off across the grass. Another off at the chicane caused by shift issues had me enraged, only to then suffer a boost hose coming loose. Probably due to the excursions into farming scenery. Self-inflicted.
Laughable video footage available soon...
Apologies to anyone I upset or slowed due to my complete lack of talent on the day! At least Karen enjoyed her run and was making full use of the power available down the straights.
However, that was a slight downward end to a fantastic season with the CSCC Modern Classics. We'll be back next year with a load of improvements being done to the car, or a similar new car.

Yes, many congrats. Neville drove consistently well throughout the year. But just like to point out he didn't "win" MC in 2014, as its a Series and not a Championship he can't win it! As there is no Series to win. But he was the best performing drivér in the Series of individual races over the season!!!

Sorry Andy, that's what I meant to say... He was the winningest driver... Thanks Dave, I enjoyed it and will miss it but after 6 years on the Committee it's time for someone else to step up to the plate.
I will still be at some of the race meetings though, but not sure yet whether to race my 924S in the new Transaxle Porsche class in Future Classics or a recently acquired M3 in MC.
