Good write up in MSN today, with Modern Classics being the headline race on page 26.

We had a nightmare in qualifying. Decided to use our Federal FZ201s in the damp conditions, but as Karen waited to go out it hammered down and got really wet. It was too much for them really. We actually used our trick diff and got some 4WD going for a change which helped. Although we didn't do 1/2 as well as Richard Hayes' Celica GT4. He qualified 16th or 18th and we were 28th.

In the dry conditions of the race it only took me 1/2 lap to catch him! Mind you, I think I woke Richard up and then he was off like a rocket!! He seemed to be ailing later and dropping oil which explains why I was slipping around all over the place. He was forced to retire.

Looks promising for some decent battles in the future.

That's not fair, buy or borrow the blooming magazine ! Of course if you're going to buy it this does not apply to you.

I was out on v70a kumho from last year had zero grip in the rain , thought those federal should have done the trick for you.

First time out with the car even up to temperature have had no time to check over everything.

It wasn't oil, a intercooler pipe was too close to the radiator and as a result rubbed through my radiator and I dropped 12 litres coolant.

I don't think my intercooler can deal with the dirty/hot air when im behind people I loose a lot of power

Hi Rich,

All fixed now? I think you did an amazing job on those worn Kumhos to qualify as you did. Looks like you've got the legs on us! I'll see if we can keep your rear spoiler in sight at Silverstone... ;-)

Cheers,
Rich.

I think that the Broads did. I bought them for mine but haven't raced it (car now for sale). Most of the Bmw racers seem to favour the Kumhos (and maybe it's as simple as the fact that they can use the same tyres in the BMW championship), whilst most of the front 4 Porsche racers seem to favour the Dunlops. I have been told that the Kumhos are marginally better in the dry but the Dunlops are a fair bit better in the wet although not sure how true that is!

Interesting, Bazz, because EMC Motorsport reckon that the Dunlops are the best of the List 1B tyres in the wet.

It might just be me being bad in the wet (or at least, substantially worse in the wet than I am in the dry) but the Dunlops do feel incredibly slippy unless the track is beginning to dry. My 90mph spin at Donington 18 months ago was a bit unexpected.
