"Modern Classics" 40 minute race series

Congratulations Rich on your class win on Sunday. Did you get your trophy? We didn't see you at the award ceremony and we wandered past a few times during the day and you weren't with your car.
You obviously had an issue during the qualifying session which your sorted out, so it must have made it all the sweeter!
Cheers,
Rich.

Hello.
Thanks , yea the rear diff was loose and knocking and potentially getting damaged .so stopped in practice .
Took it easy as didn't want to have any accidents after brands hatch.
Smooth and easy paid off in the race qualifying 12/24, finishing 9th.
Had a bit of a lonely 2 nd half after fluffing the pit stop and letting the Porsche 944 go who then got away from me .
But first good race I've had in awhile
Rich

After the 1st Safety Car period you were behind me, so I tried to make a break and managed to get a bit of distance but then was too hot into the hairpin and locked the rears. I thought I'd caught it but used up all the lock and it dumped me nose toward the barrier right on the apex. Thanks for missing me! ;-)
I had to wait until everyone was past before hooking reverse and re-joining at the back.

Should be at Mallory and Silverstone.... not donnington unfortunately
Im abit annoyed that the tin tops have infiltrated the Silverstone GP race .... I hope the grid is mostly modern and millennium.
+1 on that front, and they get in cheaper.....Im abit annoyed that the tin tops have infiltrated the Silverstone GP race .... I hope the grid is mostly modern and millennium.
How many tin tops are actually registered for NM and MC? Probably doesn't affect that many cars?

Just a note to say thanks to all the people I have raced against in Modern Classics over the past two plus years it has been fun but I have bought a new race car and have jumped up a decade to new millennium as a consequence. My 99% reliable 968 (blue with advertising all over it..car No. 18) will go up for sale now. We have had 26 months of total reliability with a car run and maintained by Solutions Racing, so great shame that we didn't get around Rockingham because of an wiring fault that has now been sorted that we couldn't fix trackside in time.
Will see you at future events in 2016 but have decided to stop now and not do the next three/four races for 2015 but instead focus on the new car in testing ready for 2016

So, Mallory Park...
Qualy/Practice could have gone better for us. We were trying our new R888s for the first time and didn't get the pressures quite right. We learned our mistake and rectified it for the race. Barry's unfortunate incident saw us sitting in the pitlane for long enough to cause heatsoak to pretty much lock up our gear selection! Either clutch fluid or issues in the box itself meant it was really tricky to find first and eventually I got it rolling. The cooling air soon freed things up. Touch and go though!
I lined up 8th in the race and got a cracking start, overhauling a few and entering Gerrards in 5th place. A lap later I nipped past Gary Jones' Porsche 944 after he'd gone wide at the Esses. Then it was a game of cat and mouse with Andy Napier's Elise. I'd romp away under power on a good deal of the circuit but he'd catch and hassle me at the Esses and the Hairpin.
Lap 4 I felt a slight decrease in power and started to hear a whistling noise. I immediately knew it was some kind of boost issue. It got worse and I was forced to let Andy and Gary past. As I went into the pits hoping for a quick underbonnet fix, I was surprised to see a black flag and drive through penalty for #15. Me!
The fix didn't work and we retired. Karen didn't get to drive her stint. It turns out the penalty was for jumping the start. I was livid (Understatement!). Organised our video evidence and presented it to the CofC, who agreed there had actually been no infringement and they were very sorry for potentially ruining our race. We'll be given the benefit of the doubt next time. Apparently there was a complaint from a "3rd party" which resulted in the penalty.
WTF?
Anyway, decent video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S12QIbMrPWI
We missed out on the prize-giving as we were trying to make a run for it between races. However, they didn't allow us out between the race as expected so we could have gone along anyway!!
Congratulations Rich on your class win. That was a great best lap time. We've got something to aim for now. ;-)

Hi Rich,
Andy Napier here. Sorry to see you retired - but glad to read it doesn't sound too serious.
Just wanted to say that the 3rd party complaint wasn't me. I had a superb time racing Karen in the 2nd half at Rockingham - and yourself at Mallory at the weekend.
Finding myself in the gap between the M3's and some of the Porsches and the rest of the field, it can get a little lonely for me without yourself to race.
Hope to see you both back out at Donny.

Don't worry Andy I'm not on a witch hunt, I just thought it was odd as it hadn't come from an official but they still handed out the penalty. I'd like to know what would happen if we'd finished the race and had been exonerated. I get them impression we'd have had to put up with the result. That's twice this season we've been on the wrong end of decisions through no fault of our own.
I had a brilliant time racing you. Unfortunately it wasn't for long enough. I agree we've found our niche in the field. our lap times aren't too far off. It's interesting racing too, with your more nimble lighter car versus our heavyweight with greater power. Karen feels the same. :-)
The plan is to be back at Donny with some simple improvements to prevent the boost problems. We look forward to seeing you there.
Cheers,
Rich.
Had good fun on Saturday .
Found out that one set of tyres of the same brand and compound were close to 3 seconds slower a lap (different widths) -- have been using the slow ones for the last 3 races
Rich I think a few people are left standing when 4WD cars launch, I when off like a rocket but had to slam the brakes on as I was boxed in.
span out so lost a place too. pictures here -- http://www.davidstallardphotography.com/ClassicSpo...
will be at Silverstone but sharing the drive this time round
see you then
