"Modern Classics" 40 minute race series
Discussion
Hi all, we have posted this on the clubs facebook page, but as Barry wanted to let you know he was ok (or as well as could be expected) we felt PH was a good place to pass on the word too.
During Saturdays CSCC Modern Classics race at Mallory Park, driver Barry Johnson impacted the tyre wall when braking for the Esses. The club maintained contact with Barry and his son and co-driver Luke over the weekend during which time he was taken from the circuit medical centre to Leicester Royal Infirmary.
Barry and Hugo had a phone conversation this morning during which time Barry wanted to pass on his thanks to the Marshals and Medical staff who attended and looked after him as well as the club members who have asked after him. Barry has said that he remembers nothing from the moment the accident happened until being in the medical centre and whilst sore he is due to be released from hospital this morning following observation. The side of the Porsche 944 took the force of the impact with the cause being put down to a brake issue, with no other drivers involved.
The CSCC wishes Barry and his son Luke well and hopes to see them at a meeting again soon.
Regards, David

I'd like to thank Dave for taking time to explain a few things.
It turns out the issue concerning the jump start was actually raised by a race official, the use of the term "3rd party" was in error or misconstrued. I'm much more comfortable with that. Changes are being drawn up to ensure that such issues can be looked at in detail following a race rather than using a drive thru during a race. This would have helped us and for anyone guilty of such an offence a time penalty would be imposed. As Robert (CofC) said during the pre-race briefing, video evidence is all important and was used in our defence post-race.
The other incident that seemed to go against us a while back has already been resolved and the resolution is now in effect.
So, onwards and upwards. Here's hoping we're not at the cutting edge of rules and regulations again! (Oh, and that we finish a race...)

Well I have spent this week at work mainly reading this thread from start to finish! I must say, this series is now also firmly on my radar for consideration when the Mrs and I are able to start racing. We were looking at a few things including Hillclimbing to get started and Team Trophy (Trackday Trophy won't accomodate an M3 Evo I believe) but MC sounds fantastic. I've had a watch of a few videos too, so thanks to those that have psoted theirs.
Just need to get our B licenses and finish the car now!
Hopefully, although the car won't be ready for at least 6 - 8 months for proper racing, we might make it onto the back end of the 2016 season

Hi! It would be wonderful to have another lady racer in the field, especially another married couple team. Good luck with your plans and please join us for the best fun time man & wife can have......Hang on, maybe I needed to think that through. LOL.

Hang on, you've already got me into trouble! When I told the Mrs that there was a couple racing an Impreza I was chastised for buying an M3..... because I know "full well" that if she had known about a series we could race an Impreza in, we'd have bought another of those! ...Hang on, maybe I needed to think that through. LOL.
All joking aside, I do think MC is now my series of choice for our first foray, but as it stands I need to finish the car and we need to get our B licenses, so any ideas about being ready before June next year are wildly optimistic!
One could choke on the tumbleweed in here...
So we've had the Donington Park and Silverstone GP races, both of which were shared with the New Millennium series. What did people think?
We only participated in the Donington Park race and had a fantastic time. I had a great battle with Jamie Sturges' Megane Turbo and Karen had similar fun with the Toyota Starlet. Qulaifying had proved eventful with the bonnet scoop ripping off at high speed and we developed a slight coolant leak which was fixed in plenty of time for the race.

I'd been meaning to ping David and Hugo some feedback first - but anyways, I thought they both went off rather well.So we've had the Donington Park and Silverstone GP races, both of which were shared with the New Millennium series. What did people think?
At S/Stone there were a number of Puma Cup drivers carrying Novice X's and I thought their traffic awareness and courtesy to faster cars was excellent. I know it's the job of the faster car to pass safely, but we all know a little working together goes a long way, and it really made for a better race.
It also seemed across the board that people really paid attention to the 'for Gods sake don't cause a red' at Silverstone.
re: Donington. I'm not over-enthused about having the Open races being scheduled before the 'series' races TBH. But that's a very personal thingas I'm trying to go all season unbeaten in my Modern Classics class. I would imagine other people having no strong feeling either way.

Hi Andy,Even though we don't do the Open races, I still prefer the idea of them being the last race of the day. I'm sure most would agree that the 'series' races are the important ones and should be held first. (On top of that we were planning to go on holiday in the evening but those plans were scuppered when it turned out our MC/NM race was held comparatively late in the day!)
You were going very well at Donny. I never got to see you, and I think you sailed past Karen. Our car's just not suited to the less technical circuits.
Cheers,
Rich.

just finished our first full season in CSCC Modern Classics in our blue E36 M3, with overall a really pleasing season racing at Silverstone (national and GP), Snetteron, Brands Indy, Spa and Donington
Here is the last round at Silverstone where we had no diff making the car a real pig to drive and try to keep up with the car in front, but a bit of luck with penalties for the few cars in front meaning we ended up in second (class and overall)

Probably one of the best club racing videos I've seen, from the Starlet at Donington in the Modern Classics/New Millennium race: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zuvrnzUv4I
We drove to our first event earlier this year in my pals Civic EP3 tintop car and I'm building a road legal 951 which I fully intend to drive to events. However admittedly this is risky business so most trailer their cars (my mate now has trailer for his Civic...).
Personally I like the idea of driving a car to a race, but if a car is built to compete at the front it will be pretty horrible to drive on the road!
