MX5 MK3 SuperCup - a fresh start

I hope starting a seperate topic for this is ok, the 'Mazda MX5' one has gone downhill a little lately...
Anyway, It looks like the MX5 SuperCup has more entries for the second round at Snetterton than for the season opener according to BRSCC entry lists which looks good for the rest of the season!
There's also a website which has been set-up by the drivers with info about the championship:

It's a work in progress (clearly) but the first step to getting back to the healthy grids and close racing of previous seasons is to get the word out there. There must be plenty of cars which didn't race last year (or the year before even) and are still tucked away or for sale for whatever reasons...

10 MK3 cars on a grid, that is a very expensive game for BRSCC, other drivers must be subsidising this series. 29 Caterham drivers on other grids. Watching 10 Mazda's on a large track is usually not entertaining to watch either, dilution of grids by attracting some drivers from another series is hardly the way to keep costs down for anyone.
4 cars are owned by one man, if he decides not to turn up to a race then it will look poor.
Good luck though, it is a tough game and can cost a fortune as we all know, just seems a crazy way to go on from my view point.
I don't race, but I like to watch a good race. Needless to say we won't be attending to buy stand tickets until you get full grids, maybe later this year.
What are the realistic anticipated numbers of entrants later this year?

15-16 entrants later in the season is realistic I think, there are plenty of cars already built and not being raced anywhere/up for sale, plus the remaining circuits are really good (Donington, Brands, Anglesey, Cadwell, Oulton off the top of my head) and the track time is secure. That would lead nicely into 2014.
Some people aren’t interested in class racing and there are few options for modern production, RWD, reasonable budget single model championships at the moment.
The other points you raise have been discussed at length in the other Mazda topic.

I agree with that statement. I have a car so am planning on renting it out until I am able to race myself. Some people aren’t interested in class racing and there are few options for modern production, RWD, reasonable budget single model championships at the moment.

) that the championship is up and running and has solid foundations again.10 cars by race 2 after the extremely late formation of the championship is a fantastic result. We lost a fair few cars to MAX5 as the popularity meant people had to commit early.
I see a bright future for 2014 and beyond.

Strange veiwpoint Stuart, more cars on the grid is a bad thing! I would have thought getting Paul Sheard Autos to join the grid is a big step in the right direction. I dont think anyone thought the SuperCup was going to have full grids from the off, its going to take time to restore confidance in Mk3 racing.4 cars are owned by one man, if he decides not to turn up to a race then it will look poor.

As with the Mk1s the BRSCC is working with and listening to the Mk3 drivers to make it a championship that will only go in the direction the drivers want it to.
Really good weekend, a bit of sunshine doesn't half make a difference too. 
Some more cars on the grid and only 1.6 seconds covering the top 4 over the line for race 2. Carrying on the good close racing seen in the Ma5da Cup last year.

Well I sincerely hope it takes off for you guys.
I had the 2.0 sport as a road car and always felt it would make a great race car, more than that I felt it would be a much better race car than a road car with its stiff body shell, really close 6 speeds, bullet proof LSD and strong brakes etc. I love my 944 S2 but I have known for the past couple of years that I just can't afford to race the thing properly where I want to race it. The Mk3 seems about the next best thing to me.

Have you looked under one? If you get a chance please do as the bit that connects the rear axle to the box is a work of art. All wishbones and long multilinks as well.

NJH why not try a round in the SuperCup? With the reintroduction of the Federal RSR tyre the one big performance variable of 2012 has been removed. Once scrubbed in, the tyres have very even performance from new until the 1.6mm minimum tread depth has been reached. One set of tyres looks like they will complete about 4 meetings making them fantastic value.
Cars are available to rent at very competative rates. I would highly recommend the SuperCup, the racing has been fantastic so far this year. The remaining meetings are visiting some of the most popular UK tracks, Anglesey, Cadwell, Donnington, Brands Hatch and Oulton Park.

The BRSCC haven't mentioned a winter championship. As we're using track time booked originally booked for Caterhams I wouldn't think they will have planned for one.
Getting all the existing cars out for the main championship is the priority for this year I think.
Saw a tweet over the weekend from Paul Sheard Autos offering 50% off arrive and drive packages in the SuperCup.

As Matt said an autumn championship hasn't been discussed as yet, but the next two SuperCup meetings are both triple headers. Basically the same track time as an autumn championship, ie 1x20min qualy and 3x20min races, plus as these meetings are in the summer there may be the possibilty of sunshine and warmth all for £385.00. Thats £210.00 less than the autumn championship. That seemed like an ideal way to try it out.
Fantastic to see all these Mazda variants now really getting the grid numbers up. MK1's and MK'3 seem to be doing well and on the up and the MX150r@s are growing slowly, we would like to see them grow quicker of course but at least it is heading in the right direction. Despite these poor economic times which have hit the racing scene there is still positive news, new grids and new drivers coming along. Congratulations to everyone for working so hard at this.
