Has anybody bought one and managed to work it out?

I bought one to use at Knockhill this year and was assured that if it didn’t have the circuit pre-installed I could download it…

The manual suggests that you can download them from the World Track Database but I cant seem to find it.

Can anybody help?

You're right, they don't have Knockhill on the database.

However, you can make a circuit in GPS Manager using the GPS coordinates, and you can get those from Google Earth or similar. I have made it for you if you want it... https://www.dropbox.com/s/sjnlf6z47gqoev8/knockhil...

That will be enough to give you laptimes and delta times etc. Once you've done a run or two, you can create the lap 'image' in GPS Manager by loading that run file. And you'll want to make a trackmap in Race Studio Analysis as well which is quite easy.

Hope that helps.

Also, you can take the solo to the start finish line, and press some buttons to make that point the start finish point. When you do that, I think you need to go into GPS Manager and rename the auto-generated track, but that's only if you like neat tidy stuff for future use.

I was at Lydden Hill this weekend and unsurprisingly it does not feature on the list of circuits. Simply turning it on it realised there was no local track and asked me if i wanted to create a new one. Then it was just a case of hitting the button again one the first qualifying lap to mark the start/finish line. It labels the track as the date/time but you can rename it later in the GPS manager software.

Some odd circuits configurations missing though such as Brands Hatch GP, and i'm not convinced all the Silverstone layouts are there which may cause confusion when i'm there this year.

I've not understood how it 'knows' which circuit to use. Some configurations use different start/finish points from each other, so I guess it gets confused. e.g. Snetterton 100, 200 and 300 (the latter two share the same start finish).

Silverstone has the GP circuit that sometimes uses the new Wing start finish, and sometimes uses the old pitlane start finish.

But it's never been a problem for me yet as I've always used the same start finish point at every venue.

Thanks tristancliffe

I feared that my question had fallen on deaf ears!!

I have yet to use it so I really don’t know what to expect, other than it look pretty in the box I haven’t got a clue, even after reading the manual.

Thanks for the dropbox file tristancliffe, even though I’m not sure what to do with it, or even know what it will do?

If you don’t mind could you explain what I need to do with the file and what it will do when I use it, or how to use it?

Thanks tristancliffe

You'll need to install GPS manager and Race Studio from AiM. Get the latest versions off the aim website is best

With the Solo plugged in via USB, you load GPS Manager and it compares the tracks in the database (on your computer) with those on the Solo. You then basically move tracks on that you might want, and remove tracks that you'll never visit (no point having them on there).

To get Knockhill you Import that Dropbox file (download it first!) into GPS Manager, which puts it in your database. Then move it onto the Solo. Job done.

It sounds complicated, but once you charge the solo, turn it on, plug it into USB, it'll all become fairly obvious. Honest!

If you need any more help I can try and help. I've been using AiM stuff for a little while now, and had a Solo for a bit last year to assist with a car that had a dodgy datalogger. I sold it on eBay, but I liked it, and if I did more trackdays then I'd definitely consider it. tristan @ omicron . uk . com

I bought one last week in preparation for testing and then racing at Brands this weekend.

So far i've done nothing with it beyond setting up a few "displays" to how i think i'll want them.

One showing +/- in big numbers at the top, with best and last lap time below (think this will be best for testing/quali).
One showing predicted time in big numbers at the top, with best and last lap time below (i think this might be nice to try in place of the above).
One showing speed in big numbers at the top, with best and last lap time below (for when racing. wasn't sure what else to show!).

Any recommendations having actually used one on track?
