MSV Team Trophy & Trackday Trophy 2014

What are the Toyo R888's like in the wet? I was running the Nankang NS2R's on Saturday and probably wasnt helped by not having a well set up back end but I had zero grip in the rain. I went off twice at Clearways doing less than 30mph and was seriously aquaplaning into Paddock at times. I was not having fun!

888's are no good with any standing water at speed, on a slightly damp track they will be better than a conventional road tyre but not much. We used R1R's both days at the weekend and they were brilliant even with our RWD/engine in the back car!Output Flange said:
Does TDT allow for cars running non-original fitment engines, ie one that wasn't available for that series during production?
5. 10. 1. All entries must be powered by a production based car engine that is fitted with a rev limiter.Makes no mention of it having to be an engine fitted to that model of car.
Ill be competing in the Team Trophy this year as no longer a novice. Might look to do a few Trackday Trophy races if I can find a willing novice who can cover the cost of the car if they stick it in a wall!
I would also think that a 250bhp/ton class would be wrong. The speed difference between some class B and A cars is already big enough. Anyway, 250bhp would be missing a class at 225 wouldnt it??

I think they'll lose a lot more cars from the series than they'll gain if they go ahead with this class.
It'll cause people in Class A and B to go elsewhere rather than spends fortunes to be competitive at the front. M3s and Boxters have plenty places to race already. This is not the right way to boost the falling numbers. All they need to do is be tough on driving standards and tough on power to weight compliance. Everything else is spot on.

I'm a bit confused about this series. Me and the Mrs are going to do a number of track days this year, get some tuition and get our race licenses while gradually building a car with the aim of entering the TDT the following year. Might come watch a couple of rounds to get an idea.
I've noticed an MR2 Turbo in one of the teams, but having owned 4 myself, I don't see how they would be in under the 175bhp/ton limit? Or are they forced to run with boost restricted so heavily that they are effectively detuned?
Sorry if that comes across wrong, I'm genuinely seeking information. I'm considering using an E36 328i myself.
Also, what are the TDT rules on cars with steel sunroofs? I read the MSA regs that stated a sunroof has to be removed and a steel panel welded in place instead, but it wasn't clear whether that applied only to glass items or to the metal ones too.
What is the atmosphere like at these races? Do many northerners take part?

All this changing classes is rumour at the moment. AndyPodium, do you have a confirmed source? With the first race on the 28th March it wouldnt give much time for people to react after any official rule changes and Id definitely see it as a mistake to cut the lower powered cars.
Troubled Soul, the power/weight is slightly misleading with TDT/TT. Its power at the hubs / weight of the car at the end of the race so includes the driver and any fuel left. My car is running 265 odd bhp at the flywheel but Im no where near 175bhp/ton limit of class B. My car dynos at approx 226bhp at the hubs and my car is 1275kg and Im 95kg with all my clobber on, so Im currently sitting at 165bhp/ton.
I raced in the TDT last year and thought the atmosphere and racing was great. Stepping up to the TT this year which I think is a bit more serious judging by the driving at the Brands Hatch GP allcomers race last year bt should still be good fun.

Ah that makes sense including the driver! I'm a right heavy bd so that will alter things dramatically for me! Troubled Soul, the power/weight is slightly misleading with TDT/TT. Join the club! After a decadent xmas and new year Im 10kg over my "race weight", i.e. the weight I need to be to fit in my seat! No pies for me for the foreseeable future!
I'm about 20kgs over where I used to be and want to get back to! So does everybody tend to send their heaviest driver out 2nd then, ahead of the post race weigh in?
