Autocross is a proper grass racing event (great fun and low cost) that dates back to the 60's - and is not to be confused with the American term autocross which is more like a UK autotest.

Yes thats an Autosolo though as only one course is being used. Auto tests that run at brands hatch use multiple courses.

Lots of autosolos throughtout the UK, where in the UK are you?

Most have a 4 course format, 2 layouts run forward and reversed.
They are a great cheap day fun out, even if course time is limited, 3 runs at each course usually 1min on course.

Some old videos of mine.

I've only done a few Autosolo's but all seemed to run 3-4 different courses during the day, although they were similar to one another.

AutoSolo is the fastest growing motorsport discipline in the country. There's 14 clubman events in the next month, according to the permits that have been issued. Have a search on the MSA's fixture list for AutoSolos, which run under an Autotest/AutoSolo permit. As previously stated, I've not heard of AutoSolos that only use one course. In 7 years of competition (2003-2010), I never found one that had less than 3 different tests in the day, although they often don't change radically during the day other than reversing the route to reduce down-time between tests.

Excellent link. I have been looking for a decent consolidated list of solos for the last year and never knew this existed.

There are 2 that I did last year that had a single course & then the reverse in the afternoon as the only runs of the day.
But yes, they usually consist of 3 and then reverses when well organised.

Tom, our first Sevenoaks Motor Club grass autotest is this Thursday, Brands Hatch 6-8 pm. Try to pop along and have a look. There are guys who do it Boxster S's, Westfields and Skylines and plenty of MX5's and MGF as well as lots of 80's & 90's classics. Very rarely is there any damage, it becomes obvious where there are any ruts and we try and set the 6 tests up where the grass is the flattest. Dust is the biggest problem on a dry eve, or mud on a wet one. don't use your car if you are heavily into " detailing"!!!

We also do autosolo which is on tarmac, one of the most fun thins we do and apart from suggesting you use a spare set of cheap tyres nothing but your handbrake cable should be troubled!!

  • I am also in the throws of writing some regs for our own version of " barrel racing " which will pitch 2 cars head to head in a donut and hanbrake-turning slalom fest! If we can get it off the ground it should be brilliant fun
