Not so Fun Cup. Idiot decides to drive on to the live track.
Discussion
As someone pointed out on the previous page, if he gets away with nothing but a tap on the hands for this, there are going to be serious implications once one of the morons who thought it was funny decides to drive through the bunting onto a rally stage, or jump in the middle of a comp safari with their quad, when they realise they don't have the pace or the grip to move out of the way.

The guy commented that it was all right 'cause he knows how to drive. I'd be very afraid that others who think they can drive will take up the mantle and soon discover that the cannot in fact drive and meet a very nasty end.Well, that applies on the track too, luckily that guy sts himself when he realises how fast they're actually going and toodles around instead of 'showing those Beetles' as he was talking about to start with. Imagine what happens when the next numpty decides to try and beat one around the track and runs out of both talent and grip....

I was sitting on the startline of Wharncliffe Wood stage as a crosser bike went past us. He was going to out run the rally car apparently. I was pulling over 100 and catching him fast when he baled. I'm not sure what I'd have done with a crosser rider sat on the bonnet but backing off hadn't crossed my mind by that stage. I don't think we had any on the stage the following year and it's not been used for a while now. Back to Brands, it is imperative that he gets dealt with severely or new laws are brought out to prevent this happening again or, like you say, it could be serious next time.

I know, and if he'd done it in the MR2 race a dew years ago he could have ended up in the paddock with Andre Bgatov or cartwheeling down the tyres with Zac Chapman. Could have been a lot worse. Do we credit the guy with some common sense for picking a suitable time here? I think not.
Or he could have done it in the MR2 race the next day and he might have been cartwheeling down the track himself!bozla said:

I with a mate at Brands that day and vividly remember that crash. About a minute earlier we were standing right next to the metal stanchion that Bogatov's car bent like a broken reed. We had only moved away because I said it was a rubbish place for taking pics!Back O/T - it looks like Jack the lad has had a change of heart. Not so cocky now, eh? - http://www.kentonline.co.uk/tonbridge/news/brands-...
That said, those doing this have sunk well below his level, especially by targeting other family members. I sincerely hope that they are not connected with any of the Fun Cup competitors.

I was sat in the grandstand for for Bogatov's crash, I to had been in the landing area before the race. The grandstand went VERY quiet, sobered me up quite quick. So lucky no one died!Back O/T - it looks like Jack the lad has had a change of heart. Not so cocky now, eh? - http://www.kentonline.co.uk/tonbridge/news/brands-...

You know those edited posts on the tarc forum Dave? Well they mentioned a few incidents (amongst other things)! He definitely would have had panel damage!
Unfortunately missed them as I was in Le Mans but I understand one of the cars has been criticised for weaving (nuff said)He would have had to stay a long way to the right to be well out of the way of this lot, and we take Surtees flat in 4th using all the track so marginally over 100.
Not quite sure what Nath's doing on the grass there; I thought that was my gig!

I won't let my family watch me race from the bottom of that grandstand. I know the MR2 clash was a bit of a freak, but it's eminently repeatable. There are also a couple of places where I won't let them watch at Combe. Anyway, back to the idiot at Brands. I actually think he was lucky with his timing. I don't think he'd have got to the pit lane during a sprint race as the collecting area / park ferme would have been manned. But even if there was only 2 abreast coming to Paddock Hill it could have got ugly.

He crawled up the pit exit lane, forcing me to overtake him on the entrance into Paddock Hill, you see a car pass just before I overtake, our mirrors are very small and have a large blind spot, as you say, had there been a car in my blind spot or two abreast, it could have been a different story, and when you're the guy in the car, you tend to see things in a different light!! So when people say he didn't endanger anyone, watch the video!! Anyway, back to the idiot at Brands. I actually think he was lucky with his timing. The police must charge the idiot with "dangerous driving".
RTA says:
"A person who drives a mechanically propelled vehicle dangerously on a road or other public place is guilty of an offence."
"A person is to be regarded as driving dangerously for the purposes of sections 1 and 2 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 if:
the way he/she drives falls far below what would be expected of a competent and careful driver, and it would be obvious to a competent and careful driver that driving in that way would be dangerous"
Clearly what he did falls within the definition of dangerous. A race track is definitely a public place for RTA purposes. People have been prosecuted for driving while disqualified when they compete in races while having been banned from driving on the road. If the race track wasn't public, racing while disqualified would not be an offence.
I hope the magistrates hand him a lengthy ban and huge fine.

Indeed If a mated brother can get a £1000 fine and a years ban for a donut in an empty car park then this muppet must be chargedRTA says:

I'm going to say something controversial (not like me at all)
I think there would be better PR / worth more to the series/BRSCC/Brands Hatch that they got this kid down to the circuit. Got him marshaling for a weekend. And maybe even take him out in a racecar and show him what a real driver is.
Get the Sun & media to cover that and maybe tie it in with some young driver awareness program.
A bit of education wouldn't go a miss here.

Has been thought about, and its a good idea, will it work.....doubtful. I think there would be better PR / worth more to the series/BRSCC/Brands Hatch that they got this kid down to the circuit. The worry would be that, if copied, what is the punishment?? A jolly in a race car and a day marshalling......lush!!! As he might say!!
