That's not the way I read it but am happy to be wrong in this instance.
It's in Section Q (Circuit Racing) of the book only.. it doesn't apply to other disciplines. Yet.
Many thanks for the clarification.

I contacted the manufacurer of my wifes 1981 911 and asked about lifeing of seat belts and the answer was " that they expect the belts to perform in a safe manner for the expected lifetime of the vehicle " so no its just revenue gathering on the part of the FIA, as is the background for most of their regulations. They are based in the EU and that really tells you all you need to know.
Tosh on both counts. How on earth do you make some FIA connection to some money making scheme? Who did manufacture your wife's 911? Could you ask them about the belts in my 1981 911 please as they are clearly and very obviously shagged?

Back to the practicalities, I have belts out of date next year. As I use the car on the road, I'd be wise to keep 3" belts?
Helmet is a Headtech SA2005 with no HANS provision. There seem to be some cheaper SA2010 lids available with no posts fitted, would it be a simple case of adding the £40 posts? (I'm a nat B racer)

Are your belts the Schroth ones with the push button which are both E marked and FIA compliant? I say this because most people for many years have tended to ignore the fact that their race type seat belts are not road legal in Europe (if not E marked its not compliant), it doesn't tend to get picked up at MoT time so the issue gets ignored. Mine are now out of date so I will be switching to the Schroth ones as the car is going back on the road and want to avoid any silly insurance situations if the worst comes to the worst. 3" v 2" is completely irrelevant, I have always used 3" shoulder belts which sit nicely on the stand21 HANS I have always used with them.

Going back to HANS and helmets, If I have a SA2010 with the threaded inserts ( which I believe all SA2010 have) Is it as simple as buying posts and self fitting?

AFAIK, only if your helmet has the correct sticker already in place.

On p174 of the Blue Book it shows the various helmet standards stickers and as far as I'm aware, its the one at the bottom of the page that you need. Please get this confirmed though.

Isn't it easier than that? If the vehicle has received heavy frontal damage the scrutineer/senior marshal cuts the belts. I think there are some marshals who will do that anyway.
Event Officials are not allowed to destroy competitor's property. We are not allowed to cut belts unless needed as part of the extration process. Scrutineers can remove the MSA approval sticker from helmets if we think they are damaged

The only approval stickers, apart from the MSA sticker attached by the Scrutineers, are those showing what the helmet standard is. For FIA events the acceptable approvals are in K10.3.1(a), in addition for MSA events BS6658 Type A/FR is acceptable until the end of 2015 (K10.3.1(c)).

Helmets to the FIA advanced standard FIA 8860 have higher levels for performance testing. These have tamper foil stickers inside, but also meet (and exceed) Snell SA2010 standard which is acceptable for many events.

There may be an FIA 8858 label that confirms that an SA helmet is suitable for HANS even though it's not an SAH helmet.

As far as racing harnesses being illegal for road use because they don't have an E marking that's not necessarily correct. Some older cars had belts fitted pre Europe and the E marking, some earlier ones were only required to have lap straps only, also without an E marking and even older cars aren't even required to have belts at all. Since there is no legal requirement to retrofit belts with an E marking, older cars with new racing harnesses aren't illegal.

Excuse the thread bump but I was told that speed events are now being included, with regard to HANS devices. Can anyone confirm this please?

Page three of this gives some indication, if you can make more sense of it than I can

See my other thread Mark. It is indeed true but depends on the class you run in.
